ANNUAL EXHIBITION OF THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT OPENS THIS WEEK

The Department of Electrical Engineering will exhibit its work at the Exhibition Hall of the Business Management Building from 18 to 21 of May. There will be exhibits of creative work provided by 13 labs, which include remote controlled ‘helicopter’ and ‘electrical ant’ and AI robotic footballers. A Robotic David Beckham will even be there to demonstrate football.

Professor Chiang Chen-shiun, the Chair of the Department disclosed that every noon there would be football matches by robots, including the team members that won the FIRA RoboCup Championship last year. Apart from them, there will be various sizes and forms of robots performing football kicking, reverse driving and driving on two wheels to demonstrate the advances in AI technology.

Furthermore, the High Speed Internet Lab will showcase its ‘dragon’—a remote controlled helicopter. The spectators will be able to enjoy its agility on location as the lab will fly the helicopter live. There will be also a demonstration of a matchbox sized ‘electrical ant’ that is exactly as fast and mobile as a real ant. It is equipped with artificial intelligence so that it can learn as it experiences new things. It comes with various sensors on its back to absorb surrounding light, sound, and temperature to work out its own routes. It will be of particular useful for rescue or exploring purposes. Anyone interested, as invited by the Vice Chairperson of the Electrical Engineering Student Club, Wang Chi-hsing, are welcome to explore the diverse repertoire of the Department of Electrical Engineering.
