Russian Astronaut Lecture Hit!

Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Feng Chao-kang invited Russian Astronaut Dr. Alexander A. Serebrov to lecture at Tamkang on Tuesday (June 1) and Wednesday (June 2), respectively on the topic “Education and Cosmos” and “The Future of the Earth Energy in Cosmos.” Many teachers and students went to see the astronaut in person, making the occasion a great hit. Dr. Alexander A. Serebrov will deliver a speech on the commencement today.

Dr. Alexander had the experience of space traveling for four times. He has done many experiments on dynamics in space, testing the different movements of various objects in zero gravity space; the video of his experiments was played in his lecture. Totally he has stayed in space for one week and one year. Staying at the narrow, noisy space station for quite a long time has caused a permanent damage to his hearing. He said, “This is the price an astronaut has to pay.”

During his speech, Dr. Alexander mentioned that watching the earth from space, he had a different perspective: our planet is as small as a space shuttle; therefore, humans should live in peace with each other.
