Last week Pres. Chen Shui-bian finalized his approved list of Presidential Advisors as well as Counselors. Four of TKU’s dignitaries were appointed either as Advisors or Counselors for National Affairs.

Dr. Clement C.P. Chang, Founder of TKU, will be the salaried Presidential Advisor for the year of 2002. Prof. Lee Yuan-chen of the Chinese Department, concurrently Chair, Women’s New Knowledge Foundation, will continue to serve as non-salaried Presidential National Affairs Counselor. Prof. Hsu Song-gen, Department of Industrial Economics and Dr. Chiu Chuei-liang, the newly appointed professor of Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, have both been appointed as Counselors for National Affairs.

Prof. Hsu Song-gen indicated that he will do the best he can in serving as National Affairs Counselor to the President. He also hopes that the government should establish an effective mechanism to reflect the feedbacks from the academics. As for Prof. Lee, her acceptance of the appointment was chiefly motivated by her intention of keeping the Feminist voice posted in the highest authoritative office in Taiwan, she said.
