To upgrade the level of education on humanities and to give the esthetic impetus of TKU faculties and students a shot in the arms, Dr. Clement C.P. Chang, Founder of TKU, is said to have decided to convert the Chung-cheng Hall in the 2nd Floor of Ching-sheng Memorial Building (Ching Chung-cheng) into a Music Hall with state-of-the-art paraphernalia. The construction plan is set to begin sometime in the upcoming summer vacation.

According to the Office of General Affairs, the entire project will be handled by Po Sen Architects Inc., but it will be overseen at the same time by an advisory team consisting of representatives such as Prof. Hung Ching-jen, Dean of General Affairs, Profs. Hsieh Chao-chung and Lee Pei-yu, Division of General Education and Core Curriculum; Mr. Huang Wei-kang, Lecturer, Division of Instructional Technology; Dr. Jeng Hoang-erh, Chair, Department of Architecture, Mr. Bee Kuang-chein, Lecturer, ditto, and Prof. Lee Shih-chung, Department of Educational Technology.

Tamkang has never had a music hall or musical performing center before. That’s the reason why school authorities had designated the facilities now available at the Ching Chung-cheng to have it remodeled into a musical theatre, with postmodern equipments so as to offer an ideal three- dimensional arena for faculties and students to practice and exhibit their musical talents.

However, Tamkang U. has always been proud of her artistic and humanistic traditions; We’ve, to name a few, the phoenix-purifying thru-fire mural at the entrance of Engineering Building, University Commons, Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center and the newly opened Chueh Hsuan, the Classical Chinese Garden; but none of them can be more fulfilling and more practical than the project now under consideration, the Music Hall or the Musical Center at Ching Chung-cheng, and it is really a great news to all who love TKU.
