An elitist literary magazine entitled the Blue Star Poetry Journal edited and published by the faculty of Department of Chinese, T.K.U., was awarded a cash prize for NT$l60,000.00 by the Council for Cultural Affairs. It has also received an Honorable Mention by the topmost agency for promotion of cultural affairs.
The Blue Star Poetry Journal was first founded in l954. It had ceased publication for 8 years before it was resuscitated by the Chinese Department of T.K.U. in l993 and has published regularly as a quarterly journal ever since.
Prof. Chou Yen-wen, Chair, Department of Chinese told our reporter, “The Blue Star was first founded by Mr. Yu Kwang-chung, a world-renowned poet---he still retains the honorary title of the Publisher of the journal. However, the journal has gone through many sporadic changes. Sometimes it appeared as a weekly, even a broad- sheet newspaper when it had money; sometimes it appeared as a monthly, or a quarterly. But whatever the metamorphosis, it has twice caught the eye of the Council for Cultural Affairs and has received their recognition.”
“Very few students of T.K.U. are aware of its existence.” Prof. Chau Wei-min, the reigning editor-in-chief of the journal told our reporter, “but neither would the school promote the sale of this journal to them. Nevertheless, it has had significant impact upon the literary forum of Taiwan, and many influential writers have designated Blue Star to publish their poetical works, and they take pride in doing so.”
