Chairperson Chang Donates Books to 3 Schools, Continuing to Root in Gender Equality Education

Chairperson Flora Chia-I Chang, driven by the mission to promote gender equality, has, in recent years, shown appreciation for the dedication and contributions of Dr. Chia-Li Wu, a pioneer in the women's rights movement and gender equality education. In a special collaboration with Fembooks, she sponsors the "Campus Good Books Love Reading - Gender-Friendly Dandelion Project," donating NT$50,000 to each school at various levels. This contribution is aimed at purchasing gender-related educational books from Fembooks to strengthen relevant education. Recently, donations have been made to 3 schools in Yilan County and Taipei City, in addition to a previous donation to schools in New Taipei City, successfully completing the puzzle in the 3 locations where our school campuses are situated.

Chairperson Chang, along with Fembooks Chairperson Shun Lien Sung and the Chief Secretary of the Board of Directors of our school, Wen-Chih Huang, attended the learning and reading station event at Yilan Dongshan Junior High School on December 25, 2023. They also participated in the book donation ceremony on the 3rd floor of the Activity Center at Taipei Xingfu Junior High School on December 27, 2023. The principals, Mr. Ben-Yan You of Dongshan Junior High School and Mr. Fu-Shi Chuang of Xingfu Junior High School, along with the enthusiastic reception from the students and teachers at both schools, expressed their gratitude for Chairperson Chang's generous donations, recognizing the significant contribution to enhancing gender equality education at both schools. Additionally, on January 4, Chairperson Chang donated books to the Yilan County Gender Equality Resource Center, with representatives from Cheng-Gong Elementary School in Luodong Township accepting the donation on behalf of the center.

Chairperson Chang expressed that gender equality education is of utmost importance. In addition to actively promoting it within our school to strengthen students' awareness of gender equality, as the premier institution in the Tamsui area, Tamkang University should also dedicate efforts to local gender equality education. Following the donation of books to schools such as Tamsui Junior High School, Tamsui Community University, Er-Qiao Elementary School in Yingge District, Jin-Mei Elementary School in Jinshan District, and Heng Yee Catholic High School in Xinzhuang District, Chairperson Chang, guided by the initial intention of the founder, Dr. Clement C.P. Chang, to give back to the Lanyang community, actively seeks suitable schools for book donations. Simultaneously, plans are underway for book donations in Taipei City, where the Taipei campus is located. Chairperson Chang stated, "I am delighted to have achieved our goals before the end of the year, smoothly extending the promotion of gender equality education to the grassroots level. We will continue these efforts in the future because it is not only a personal mission but also a social responsibility that Tamkang University must fulfill.”
