Like the iconic Taipei 101, which continues to draw international attention, Tamkang University has reached a remarkable milestone amid Taiwan’s declining birthrate and its impact on higher education. In the 2026–2027 academic year, the enrollment rate for full-time undergraduate freshmen reached 101.84%, exceeding 101% for the third consecutive year and surpassing last year’s record of 101.51%. This achievement reflects the strong confidence students and parents place in the university's educational excellence and reinforces Tamkang University's leading position among Taiwan's comprehensive universities in total freshman enrollment.
President Hui-Huang Hsu attributed this remarkable growth, achieved despite increasingly challenging student recruitment conditions, to the collective dedication of Tamkang University's faculty, staff, and students, as well as its forward-looking strategic planning. With a professional background in computer science and extensive experience in academic administration, President Hsu emphasized that Tamkang has actively pursued its institutional development vision of "AI+SDGs=∞" in recent years, deeply integrating AI applications and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its curricula, research activities, and campus governance.
Quoting NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's well-known advice, "Run, don't walk," President Hsu stressed that universities must embrace rapid transformation and collective innovation to remain competitive amid evolving learning patterns among younger generations and the emergence of interdisciplinary technologies. Looking ahead, Tamkang will accelerate the practical implementation of AI and strengthen industry–academia collaboration through innovative initiatives. These include flexible interdisciplinary academic programs, micro-credit courses, and strategic partnerships with leading domestic and international technology companies such as Microsoft Taiwan, Far EasTone Telecommunications, NVIDIA, and AMD. Through these efforts, the university aims to continuously enhance teaching quality and graduates' career competitiveness, empowering every Tamkang student to reach a higher vantage point in higher education, develop a global perspective, and acquire the practical skills needed to succeed in the professional world.
Beyond innovative teaching and forward-looking research, Tamkang University's strong reputation in the employment market is another key factor attracting prospective students. For 29 consecutive years, Tamkang has ranked first among private universities in CommonWealth magazine's survey of "Corporate Favorite University Graduates." Together with its extensive global network of more than 340,000 alumni working across diverse industries and professions, this outstanding reputation forms a solid foundation, offering successive generations of students invaluable resources, professional connections, and ongoing support.
Looking ahead, President Hsu reaffirmed Tamkang University's commitment to its Triple Objectives of Education: Globalization, Information-oriented Education, and Future-oriented Education. With the collective efforts of faculty, staff, and students, alongside strengthened partnerships with industry and its extensive alumni network, the university will continue to integrate resources and advance sustainable innovation as a driving force toward its next milestone of excellence.
Dean of Academic Affairs Li-Ren Yang expressed his appreciation for the dedication and active contributions of all colleges and academic departments. He called for continued collaboration in advancing curriculum reforms that respond to industry developments and societal needs, while actively introducing innovative teaching approaches that align with the learning expectations of a new generation of students. Through these collective efforts, Tamkang University seeks to cultivate a high-quality, interdisciplinary, and technology-enhanced higher education environment.
