SEMI, the global semiconductor industry association, and Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) recently announced a cross-industry strategic partnership between the semiconductor sector and transportation infrastructure. At the launch press conference for the promotional video Silicon Pulse • Transform Tomorrow, two distinguished Tamkang University alumni—Chin-Tsai Chen, a graduate of the Department of Accounting and Chairman of WIN Semiconductors, and Terry Tsao, a graduate of the Department of Mass Communication and SEMI's Global Chief Marketing Officer and President of Taiwan—appeared together, highlighting their significant influence within the semiconductor ecosystem.
Recently dubbed a "Taiwan High Speed Rail spokesperson" by those around him, Chen said he participated in the video at Tsao's invitation to share the perspectives and experiences of semiconductor industry professionals. The video not only showcases the achievements of Taiwan's technology industry over the past three to four decades but also illustrates how the high-speed rail network connects the nation's industrial hubs, creating a unique technological ecosystem unmatched anywhere else in the world. This efficient transportation system enables Taiwanese manufacturers and their customers to meet and communicate within two hours, allowing them to respond swiftly and resolve problems as they arise.
Tsao emphasized that Taiwan High Speed Rail serves as a vital infrastructure supporting the highly efficient operations of Taiwan's semiconductor industry. This role has become particularly important in the AI era, when product development cycles are increasingly rapid, and market demands are more urgent than ever. By seamlessly connecting the semiconductor industry corridor stretching approximately 350 kilometers from Hsinchu Science Park through Central Taiwan Science Park to Southern Taiwan Science Park, the high-speed rail system has helped maximize Taiwan's competitive advantages and operational efficiency in semiconductor manufacturing. "When people around the world think of Taiwan, they immediately associate it with semiconductors and an ecosystem whose competitive strengths are extremely difficult to replicate," Tsao remarked. "Taiwan High Speed Rail is the unsung hero behind the success of this remarkable ecosystem."
Tamkang University has long cultivated interdisciplinary talent and strengthened the connection between academic education and practical professional skills, providing valuable human resources for Taiwan's industrial development. From Chen, a prominent leader in the global semiconductor manufacturing industry, to Tsao, who plays a pivotal role in connecting Taiwan's semiconductor ecosystem with international markets, these two distinguished alumni exemplify the university's educational achievements. Their accomplishments show how Tamkang graduates not only excel in their respective fields through strong professional expertise but also leverage innovative thinking and interdisciplinary perspectives to foster meaningful collaboration between technology and infrastructure, continuing to make indispensable contributions to Taiwan's industrial development.
