Confucius Showed up during the Literature Week, while the Foreign Language Week Featured Performances of Various International Dances

Confucius, the "Sage Teacher," made an appearance in the opening ceremony of the Literature Week on May 9th. He engaged in a conversation with the host and the Department Chair of History, Shang-Wen Kao. Confucius said, "I've heard that the Chinese Literature and History departments often mention me. Children are worthy to be taught!" The College of Liberal Arts organized the 42nd Literature Week under the theme of "Interdisciplinarity and Sustainability: A New Era for the College of Liberal Arts." The event took place in the second-floor lobby of the Building of Liberal Arts and was expected to run until the end of May.

the Department of Mathematics Invited Prof. Yousef Saad from the University of Minnesota, USA, to the Clement and Carrie Chair.

On May 16th at 2:00 PM, the Department of Mathematics in the College of Science organized one of the Panda Lectures (i.e. Clement and Carrie Chair) at the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center. Distinguished Research Chair Professor Jong-Shenq Guo of the Department of Mathematics invited Distinguished Professor Yousef Saad of the College of Science and Engineering and the William Norris Chair from the University of Minnesota, USA. The title of the lecture was "Numerical Linear Algebra: from Scientific Computing to Data Science Applications." After the lecture, Professor Saad had a meeting with President Huan-Chao Keh and Chairperson Flora Chia-I Chang.

Cultivating Cybersecurity Talents: TKU, FET, and ISSDU Jointly Establish a New Information Security Program

In response to the rapid development of global digital technology applications and the increasing demand for cybersecurity, the cultivation of cybersecurity talents is urgent. Tamkang University, in collaboration with FarEasTone Telecommunications (FET) and Information Security Service Digital United Inc. (ISSDU), jointly established the "New Information Security Program" in the 2023th academic year. An inauguration meeting was held on May 12th in the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center, attended by President Huan-Chao Keh, Academic Vice President Hui-Huang Hsu, Dean of the College of Business and Management Li-Ren Yang, Chair of the Department of Information Management Sheng-Pao Shih, Executive Vice President of Information and Digital Transformation Technology Division at FET Telecommunications Peter Hu, and President of ISSDU Eric Li. They discussed the curriculum planning for the program.

2023 Sustainable Development Summit: Collaborative Dialogue on Sustainable Innovation among Industry, Government, and Academia

The Office of Research and Development, Center for European Union Studies, and the Department of Physics jointly hosted the 2023 Sustainable Development Summit on May 3rd in the Chang Yeo Lan International Conference Hall of Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center. Academic Vice President and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development and Social Innovation (SDSI) Hui-Huang Hsu, Secretary General Ay-Hwa Andy Liou, Chief Secretary of the Board of Directors Wen-Chih Huang, Director of the Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center Ben-Hang Chang, Chief Audit Executive Der-Wen Chang, first- and second-level supervisors, government and corporate representatives, teachers, and students, totaling over 200 participants, were present.

“You Ji Shi” held by TKUSA Introduce Public Welfare and Creative Culture, Calling for Friends to Come and Learn

The TKU Student Association (TKUSA) held a public welfare sustainability fair named "You Ji Shi (There’s a market.)"(有集市) from May 2nd to 5th at the poster street and in front of the library. On the evening of May 3rd, they also held the "Tamkangian's Cinema" screening of the movie "Top Gun: Maverick." The name of the fair sounds similar to “urgent matter" in Chinese, hoping that students can spread the word and invite friends to participate in the event.

Seminar on Enhancing Competitiveness Co-Hosted by Business Administration Dept. & Xiamen University

The Department of Business Administration and the School of Management of Xiamen University jointly held the "2023 Seminar on Enhancing Competitiveness and Business Management" on April 28th in research rooms B302a and B302b. Faculty and students from 17 universities were invited to the event, including Xiamen University, National Taiwan Normal University, and National Taipei University. 32 papers were presented.

Good News from the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games: Ken Taniguchi, Ji-Chien Yang & Wei-Che Hsu Won Consecutive Gold Medals.

The opening ceremony of the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games 2023 was held at Chung Yuan Christian University on May 6th. Dr. Huan-Chao Keh, TKU President, led the faculty and students into the venue. This year, there are 11 teams participating. As of press time, the TKU athletes have won 4 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medals, as well as the first place in the general men's team of karate and the second place in the general men's team of soft tennis. In the judo event, Ken Taniguchi, a freshman from Japanese department won the gold medal in the general men's first weight class. In the karate event, Ji-Chien Yang, a senior from chemical engineering department won the gold medal in the general men's individual kata and the gold medal in the general men's 5th weight class, while Wei-Che Hsu, a 2nd-year student from mechanical engineering department won the gold medal in the general men's 4th weight class. In the soft tennis games, Hao-Yun Deng, a senior from the transportation management department won the silver medal in the general men's singles, and Yamasaki Ichika,a sophomore from the tourism management department, and Po-Hsuan Wu, a senior from the French department won the bronze medal in the general women's doubles. The general men's team also won the silver medal.

2023 Civil Tech Exhibition: A Conference for Industry-Government-Academia-Research Alliances

To raise public awareness of the application of new technologies in civil engineering, the Department of Civil Engineering hosted the "2023 Civil Tech Exhibition" on April 29 at the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center. The event was guided by the New Taipei City Government and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the Ministry of Labor. Nearly 50 companies and institutions, including famous domestic construction companies, professional associations, AI intelligent startup technologies, and government agencies such as the Public Works Department and the Department of Rapid Transit Systems, were invited to participate in the exhibition. In the afternoon, the Department of Civil Engineering held a "Civil Engineering Technology Alliance" meeting to discuss cooperation plans for the application of technology in the civil engineering industry.
