11th Departmental Development Incentive Award Final: Contest among 10 Departments with Distinctive Features
The final of the 11th Departmental Development Incentive Award was held on May 17th in meeting rooms HC305 and HC306. The President, Dr. Huan-Chao Keh, presided over the event, with 3 Vice Presidents and relevant first-level supervisors in attendance. The evaluation committee was convened by President Keh, and it included the participation of 3 Vice Presidents, as well as the President of National Taipei University of Business, Prof. Lichung Jen, President of Longhua University of Science and Technology, Dr. Tzu-Hsiang Ko, President of Tamkang University Alumni Association Headquarters of Departments alumni, Mr. Tzu-Hwa Chuang, President of Tamkang University Alumni Association Headquarters, Dr. Lawrence Lin, Associate Professor Shan-Pei Yin from the Department of Chinese Literature, Professor Ruey-Chyn Tsaur from the Department of Management Sciences, Professor Chao-Hung Du from the Department of Physics, and Associate Professor Shwu-Yann Su from the Department of Russian.
TKU Plans to Implement Interdisciplinary Specialized Courses Starting from 2023 Academic Year
The academic affairs meeting for the second semester of the 2022 academic year was held on May 12th in Ching-Sheng International Conference Hall. The meeting was chaired by the Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Tzung-Ru Tsai, and attended by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Hui-Huang Hsu, the Vice President for Administration Affairs, Dr. Chun-Hung Lin, the Vice President for International Affairs, Hsiao-Chuan Chen, the deans of all colleges, relevant first-level supervisors from administrative units, chairs of departments, and representatives of faculty members and students. The meeting was conducted via simultaneous video conferencing with the Taipei campus.

Wen-Je Ko Discusses New Perspectives on Urban Governance
On May 11th, the Student Association of Department of Public Administration organized a lecture in room B712, featuring former Mayor of Taipei City, Dr. Wen-Je Ko, as the keynote speaker. The topic of the lecture was "Urban Governance: New Political Culture," where he shared his personal journey from being a surgeon to entering politics, as well as his future aspirations and plans. The event drew nearly 250 participants. Prior to becoming the Mayor of Taipei City, Dr. Ko 's sole profession was a surgeon specialized in acute and critical care at National Taiwan University Hospital. He mentioned, "My governing style is deeply influenced by the culture of surgery," emphasizing pragmatism, outcome-oriented decision-making, precision and speed, scientific statistics, treating people as if they were family, and having the endurance to overcome hardships.”

2nd Phase of Higher Education SPROUT Project, TKU Funded over NT$100 million
Following the recent approval of all 5 projects in the Phase 3 of the USR Project, on May 17th, the application for the second phase (2023-2027 fiscal years) of the Higher Education SPROUT Project was approved by the Ministry of Education. For the fiscal year 2023, the approved subsidy is NT$111,196,814, which is an increase of NT$18.4 million compared to the first phase (fiscal years 2018-2022), representing a nearly 20% increase. Among private universities in Taiwan, Tamkang ranks 8th, improving by 4 places compared to the previous year and showing the most progress among all schools. Among private universities excluding medical schools, we rank 4th, demonstrating the recognition of our performance in the first phase of Higher Education SPROUT Project.

Hui-Huang Hsu & Min-Fen Tu Attended 2023 USR Joint Training Activity
Dr. Hui-Huang Hsu, Academic Vice President and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development and Social Innovation (SDSI), and Dr. Min-Fen Tu, the Chief of Resilient Governance Planning Section at SDSI, attended the "2023 USR Joint Training Activity Joint Signing Ceremony" organized by Center for University Social Responsibility, Ministry of Education. The event took place on May 24th at the NTUH International Convention Center. Over the next year, Tamkang will collaborate with other universities, including Tunghai University, National Cheng Kung University, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University, National Chi Nan University, and Providence University, to establish a learning network and share experiences in promoting the USR project.
