International Cultural Kaleidoscope: Overseas Students Showcase a Different Side of the World
On May 14 at 6 p.m., the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs’ International and Mainland Student Guidance Section held the “International Cultural Kaleidoscope” event in the 10th-floor lobby of Ching-Sheng Building. The event featured cultural sharing by overseas students: Pablo Vicente Vega Fernandez, year 1 exchange student in International Tourism Management, Timur Aiusheev, year 1majoir in English-taught Banking and Finance, Sati Muradyan, year 1 in Diplomacy and International Relations, and Ali Kouhi, year 3 major in the English-taught program of Computer and Information Engineering. Nearly 50 faculty, staff, and students attended.

Counseling Center Renovation Completed, Offering Students a Warmer and More Supportive Environment
To provide students with a safe and comfortable space for psychological counseling, the Counseling, Career Development and Learning Center participated in the Ministry of Education’s “Campus Aesthetics and Mental Wellness—Counseling Space Renovation Project for Colleges and Universities”, completing its space optimization project. A completion tea reception was held on May 8 at 11:00 a.m. in Room B408. The event was attended by Executive Vice President Chun-Hung Lin, Vice President for International Affairs Hsiao-Chuan Chen, Chief Secretary Wen-Chih Huang, Military Education and Training Office Director Chin-Yen Lai, Dean of Academic Affairs Tzong-Ru Tsai, General Education and Core Curriculum Center Director Shun-Jie Ji, former directors of the Counseling Center Yen-Wei Hu, Kai-Chieh Hsu, and Yi-Chun Lin, as well as many faculty and staff members.
Physics Exchange Student Kristofer R. Sano Realizes His Dream of Becoming a Scientist at Tamkang
Kristofer R. Sano, an exchange student from Mapúa University in Manila, Philippines, fulfilled his dream of becoming a scientist at Tamkang University’s Department of Physics this semester. Since kindergarten, he had aspired to be a scientist, and that dream came true when he arrived at Tamkang. Under the guidance of the Department Chair, Professor Cheng-Hao Chuang, Kristofer came to Taiwan to explore advanced instruments and radiation detection research. In the Energy Materials Laboratory, he learned essential knowledge about personal safety, proper handling of detection equipment, and the management of chemicals. Before returning home, he created a video and an impressive report to preserve these invaluable memories.

[Department Spotlight] Professor Chih-Hsin Chen’s Research Team Publishes Two Consecutive Papers in Leading International Journals
Professor Chih-Hsin Chen, Chair of the Department of Chemistry, co-published two papers with his students. The first, co-authored with postdoctoral researcher Rajib Nandi and senior student Yung-Jung Chuang, is titled “Liquid crystal sensor for Cr (III)-citrate detection via interfacial coagulation”, and was published in Analytica Chimica Acta, a top-tier Q1 journal with an impact factor of 5.7. The second paper, authored by master’s student Wen-Hao Zhang under Professor Chen’s supervision, is titled “Cyano-Substituted Bis((benzothiophen-2-yl)pyridine) (acetylacetonate) Iridium Complexes for Efficient and Stable Deep Red Organic Light-Emitting Diodes Emitting at 673 nm”, and appeared in the Q1 journal Dyes and Pigments, which has an impact factor of 4.1.

Ambassador of Saint Lucia to Taiwan, Dr. Robert Kennedy Lewis, Visits Tamkang to Strengthen Educational Cooperation
On the morning of May 1, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Robert Kennedy Lewis of Saint Lucia to Taiwan, accompanied by Second Secretary Ms. Rovin Février, Administrative Attache Ms. Adriana Hsu, and Mrs. Brenda Phanis-Lewis, visited Tamkang University. The delegation was first welcomed by the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs and toured the Artificial Innovative Intelligence College, where Dean Tzung-Hang Lee, who concurrently leads the College of Engineering, the Artificial Innovative Intelligence College, and the College of Precision Healthcare, introduced the experiential learning facilities and academic features. The group also participated in a symbolic blessing ceremony by hanging ema plaques on the "Wishing Wall" outside the engineering building.
Wei Been Yu Donates NT$4 Million to Establish iST Study Hall, Providing a Quality Learning Environment for Math and Physics Students
To provide faculty and students with a refreshed space for reading and interaction, the Department of Applied Mathematics and Data Science and the Department of Physics have jointly redesigned and renovated the reading and collaboration areas on the 1st and 2nd floors of the Liu-Hsien Memorial Science Hall. This was made possible through the generous donation of NT$4 million from Tamkang Physics alumnus and Chairman & President of Integrated Service Technology Inc. (iST), Mr. Wei Been Yu. The newly established space is named the iST Study Hall. The opening ceremony was held at 10:30 a.m. on May 8, attended by the vice presidents, Prof. Hui-Huang Hsu, Prof. Chun-Hung Lin, and Prof. Hsiao-Chuan Chen, Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Tzenge-Lien Shih, Dean of R&D, Prof. Hung-Chung Hsueh, along with faculty and alumni from both departments. The renovation totaled NT$6 million, with NT$1 million each covered by the Mathematics and Physics departments, and the remaining NT$4 million generously donated by Mr. Yu.
