Diplomacy & International Relations Department Hosts “Global Ghost Festival” Exhibition Exploring Cross-Cultural Views of the Supernatural
During the Diplomacy and International Relations Department’s “Festival Culture: Respect and Inclusion” course event on global ghost festivals, students toured the exhibition and snapped selfies with the displays.

Every year on October 31st, Halloween brings both children and adults into the streets dressed as ghosts, monsters, and a wide range of characters to enjoy the festive atmosphere. Yet beyond the fun of “becoming ghosts,” how much do we truly understand about the cultural meanings behind them? The Department of Diplomacy and International Relations held an exhibition titled “International Ghost Festivals” from November 12 to 14 at the Black Swan Exhibition Hall, as part of the course “Festival Culture: Respect and Inclusion.” Planned collaboratively by students, the exhibition explores the symbolic role of “ghosts” from a cross-cultural perspective, highlighting the positive values these figures represent in different societies. The goal is to foster cultural exchanges, respect, and inclusiveness.

Cultural Kaleidoscope: A Mini Journey Through Belgium, India, and Iran
The Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs’ International and Mainland Student Guidance Section held the “International Cultural Kaleidoscope” event on November 19, attracting 36 faculty members and students.

Did you know that the Manneken Pis has an entire wardrobe? That India has so many languages that they can barely be counted? Or that gasoline in Iran is cheaper than bottled drinks? All of these surprising facts are true, and more were revealed at the “International Cultural Kaleidoscope” held by the International and Mainland Student Guidance Section of the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs on November 19 at 6:00 p.m. in the Ching-Sheng Building. Three international students, Widad Rahmouni (Belgium), a first-year student in the Department of Chinese; Penubarthi Guru Varun (India), a second-year doctoral student in Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering; and Ali Kouhi (Iran), a senior in the English-taught Computer Science and Information Engineering Program, offered a lively cultural journey through personal stories and fascinating everyday details. The event attracted 36 faculty and students.

The College of Artificial Innovative Intelligence at Tamkang University has partnered with Taiwan AI Labs to launch the FedGPT Certification Program, aiming to train 100 students as hands-on “AI Seed Talents.” During a recent campus visit, Cheen Liao, Chairman of YaTing Intelligence and strategic partner of Taiwan AI Labs, expressed strong enthusiasm for this industry–academia collaboration.

Record-Breaking Achievement! TKU-II Sounding Rocket Reaches Over 7 km, Validating the Stability of its Next-Generation Avionics System
On November 23, the Department of Aerospace Engineering successfully launched its 4th sounding rocket, “TKU-II.”

On November 23 at 6:46 a.m., the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Tamkang University successfully launched its fourth small scientific sounding rocket, “TKU-II,” from the National Science and Technology Council’s Short-Term Scientific Sounding Rocket Launch Site in Xuhai, Pingtung. With 13 seconds of powered flight, the rocket reached a maximum altitude of over 7 km, setting a new record for the university. The mission followed all planned procedures and landed safely within the designated zone, marking another milestone in TKU’s rocket development history.

Following her Tamkang Clement and Carrie Chair Lecture, Dr. Sonia Nieto, Professor Emerita of the College of Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, returned on November 13 for a second talk, this time in collaboration with her daughter, Alicia M. López Nieto, Assistant Principal of Crocker Farm Elementary School. Their presentation, titled “English as a Second Language in a Western Massachusetts Public School,” offered an in-depth look at the history of English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction in the United States, as well as practical approaches currently implemented at Crocker Farm. The event attracted not only faculty and students from the Department of English but also Director Yi-Chun Lin and teacher-training students from the Center for Teacher Education, along with three bilingual program teachers from Wunhua Elementary School. The Cheng-Sheng International Conference Hall was filled to capacity.

TKU Science College and Physics Department Sign MOU with Hanoi National University of Education to Advance Quantum Materials and Synchrotron Radiation Research

On the afternoon of October 29, Tamkang University’s College of Science and Department of Physics signed separate MOUs in Hanoi with the Institute of Natural Sciences (INS) and the Faculty of Physics at Hanoi National University of Education (HNUE). The collaboration will focus on advanced scientific fields, such as quantum materials and synchrotron radiation technology, marking a new chapter in international cooperation between the two universities through student exchange, faculty visits, and joint research.

World University Presidents Forum: 36 Partner Institutions Discuss Higher-Education Transformation and Sustainable Development

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of Tamkang University, a delegation of 67 distinguished guests from 36 partner universities across 11 countries visited the university on November 8 to offer their congratulations. At 7:50 a.m., the delegation toured the newly renovated University Commons, where the names of 285 global sister universities are engraved on the surrounding granite. Guests enthusiastically searched for the names of their own institutions and took a commemorative group photo filled with smiles and excitement, symbolizing lasting friendship and shared prosperity. The delegation then attended the Anniversary Celebration Ceremony at the Shao-Mo Memorial Sports Center and enjoyed a lunch banquet at the Ching-Sheng International Conference Hall, followed by a campus tour of the Tamsui Campus and the TKU History Gallery in the afternoon.

The Department of English hosted a Tamkang Clement and Carrie Chair Lecture on November 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chang Yeo Lan Hall of the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center, inviting Professor Sonia Nieto, Professor Emerita of Language, Literacy, and Culture at the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s College of Education. She delivered a keynote speech titled “Multicultural Education in a Globalized World: Implications for Educational Equity,” sharing her extensive international experience in promoting multicultural education and linguistic diversity. The lecture drew an audience of over 200 faculty and students from the College of Foreign Languages. Due to the speaker’s influential contributions in the field of education, Chairperson Flora Chia-I Chang and College of Education Dean Kuo-Hua Chen also attended the event.

Prof. Chu Duc Trinh, Rector of the University of Engineering and Technology at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and a renowned international scholar, was invited to Tamkang University as a Tamkang Clement and Carrie Chair professor. At 2:10 p.m. on November 10, he delivered a lecture at the Chang Yeo Lan Hall of the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center, introducing the latest advances in Biological Microelectromechanical Systems (BioMEMS) and Organ-on-Chip technologies. His 40-minute talk drew strong interest, followed by an extended 40-minute Q&A session with continuous questions from the audience.

The Department of Physics held a high-profile Tamkang Clement and Carrie Chair Lecture at 2 p.m. on November 14 at the Chang Yeo Lan Hall of the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center, inviting Dr. Gerardus ’t Hooft, the 1999 Nobel Prize in Physics laureate and professor at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of Utrecht University, Netherlands, to deliver a speech titled “Education and Collaboration in Fundamental Science as Bridges Between Nations.” The event was livestreamed online. More than 310 faculty, students, and researchers from both within and outside the university attended, including members of Tamkang University, Tamkang University Golden Eagle Club President Chien-Hsiang Lin, and representatives from Academia Sinica, National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, Tamkang High School, Bailin High School, and Blessed Imelda’s High School.
