At 6:30 p.m. on November 26, the French Division of the Department of European Languages and Cultures held the “Beaujolais Knowledge Quiz and Alumni Homecoming Appreciation Night” in the first-floor lobby of the College of Foreign Languages and Literatures. As one of the inaugural series of events following the establishment of the Department of European Languages and Cultures, the event attracted enthusiastic participation from faculty members, students, and alumni, creating a warm and lively atmosphere.

International Cultural Kaleidoscope Explores the Fun and Diversity of Global Cultures
The International Student Guidance Section hosted the “International Cultural Kaleidoscope,” inviting international students from Spain, Indonesia, Japan, and Iran to share their home cultures.

Did you know that giving a thumbs-up is considered taboo in Iran? Or that one of the first things Indonesians miss when coming to Taiwan is the absence of a bidet sprayer in restrooms? To showcase the fun and differences of global cultures, the International Student Guidance Section of the Office of International Affairs held the “International Cultural Kaleidoscope” event at 6:00 p.m. on December 3 at the 10th floor of the Ching-Sheng Building. The event invited international students Candela Balboa Chirona from Spain (first year, Department of Diplomacy and International Relations), Shiena Chailand from Indonesia (fourth year, English-taught Program in Computer Science and Information Engineering), Noda Seina from Japan (third year, Department of Diplomacy and International Relations), and Ali Kouhi from Iran (fourth year, English-taught Program in Computer Science and Information Engineering) to share stories from their home countries through everyday perspectives such as food, festivals, and social customs.

International Students’ Cultural Journey Explores Taiwan’s Sustainability and Hakka Heritage
The International Student Guidance Section organized the “2025 International Students Cultural Tour: Two-Day Taoyuan–Hsinchu–Miaoli Trip.”

To provide international students with a deeper understanding of Taiwanese culture and local characteristics, the International Student Guidance Section organized the “2025 International Students Cultural Tour: Two-Day Taoyuan–Hsinchu–Miaoli Trip” from November 29 to 30. Centered on Hakka culture, rural experiences, and ESG-focused sustainability education, the event was led by Vice President for International Affairs Hsiao-Chuan Chen and brought together approximately 100 international students and staff. The journey took participants from the Taoyuan coastline into the mountainous towns of Hsinchu, allowing them to experience Taiwan’s diverse and authentic landscapes through nature, ecology, culture, and local narratives.

Dr. Hermenegildo Cohene Velázquez, President of the National University of Itapúa (Universidad Nacional de Itapúa), Paraguay, visited Tamkang University at 3:00 p.m. on November 27 to discuss the deepening of academic exchange and technological cooperation. Discussions focused on key areas including AI, agricultural technology, and water resources engineering, as well as topics such as the development of smart classrooms, promotion of research projects, and student exchange programs.

Accelerating Taiwan–Japan Youth Exchange: Tamkang University and Kyushu–Taiwan Visionary Institute Co-host AI Workshop

Naoki Kumamoto, Representative Director of the Kyushu–Taiwan Visionary Institute (KTVI), led a delegation to visit Tamkang University’s College of Artificial Innovative Intelligence (AII) on November 27 for an exchange visit. Building on earlier engagements between the two sides, the visit aimed to translate their shared vision for interdisciplinary talent cultivation into concrete action through the Next-Generation Leadership Development Program scheduled for 2026. A Japan–Taiwan Co-Creation Workshop is tentatively planned for March 6 next year at Tamkang University’s College of AI and Creative Intelligence, creating an efficient dialogue platform where Taiwanese and Japanese youth can jointly “reflect on future society through AI.”

Employment Gold Card Briefing Helps International Students Explore Career Opportunities in Taiwan
Bradley Orr, a representative of Talent Taiwan, introduced the regulations for foreign graduates seeking to remain in Taiwan, the points-based assessment system, and the Taiwan Employment Gold Card program.

To assist international students in seeking employment in Taiwan after graduation, the International and Mainland Student Guidance Section of the Office of International Affairs held an information session titled “Exploring Your Future in Taiwan: The Taiwan Employment Gold Card for International Students” at 12:10 p.m. on November 27 at the Ching-Sheng International Conference Hall. Representatives Bradley Orr and Dennis Chen from Talent Taiwan were invited to explain relevant regulations for foreign graduates wishing to remain in Taiwan, the points-based assessment system, and the Taiwan Employment Gold Card program.

FedGPT Certification Program Attracts Interdisciplinary Graduate Students to Advance Taiwan’s AI Development
The hands-on workshop of the “FedGPT Certification Program” featured a Prompt Engineering course taught by Ya-Jen Lee, Project Manager at the Taiwan AI Labs.

Tamkang University’s College of Artificial Innovative Intelligence (AII) has partnered with Taiwan AI Labs to launch the FedGPT Certification Program, which combines online micro-credit courses with hands-on workshops. The program aims to train 100 students from diverse academic backgrounds to become practice-oriented “AI seeds” equipped with real-world implementation experience. President Huan-Chao Keh noted that the FedGPT program emphasizes cross-departmental collaboration and workflow design, making it an ideal platform for cultivating students’ systems thinking and problem-solving abilities. This collaboration represents a concrete step in advancing the University’s development visions of “AI+SDGs=∞” and “ESG+AI=∞.” Tamkang University hopes that students will not only learn to use AI tools but also understand how to apply AI responsibly within their professional fields, becoming key talents driving sustainable industrial transformation.

Information & Library Science Department Master Lecture by Michael Lambert Explores Library Governance and the Value of Intellectual Freedom
On November 24, the Department of Information and Library Science held a master lecture featuring Michael Lambert, Director of the San Francisco Public Library in the United States.

At 1:10 p.m. on November 24, the Department of Information and Library Science hosted a master lecture at the Ching-Sheng International Conference Hall, inviting Michael Lambert, Director of the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL), to speak on “A Library for All: The Present and Future Vision of the San Francisco Public Library.” Drawing on his leadership of the SFPL’s main library and 27 branch libraries, Lambert shared how he has built a resource-rich and diverse urban library system, attracting nearly 130 faculty members and students.

Education College Students Participate in Dubai Future Forum, Engaging in Global Academic Exchange

Invited by the Dubai Future Foundation, Tamkang University sent a delegation led by Dean Kuo-Hua Chen of the College of Education, accompanied by 7 students, to the Museum of the Future in Dubai from November 17 to 20 to participate in the world’s largest annual gathering on future studies—the Dubai Future Forum. During the closing ceremony, the organizers extended special recognition to Tamkang University, affirming its long-standing achievements in future education and interdisciplinary learning. The Foundation expressed strong interest in expanding future collaborations with the University, including Dubai-based foresight programs, international internship initiatives, scenario design competitions, and cross-national research projects, all of which are expected to provide Tamkang students with broader international opportunities.

Hsi-Deh Wu Honored with the 29th Taiwan–France Cultural Award for Outstanding Contributions to Cultural and Artistic Exchange

Professor Emeritus Hsi-Deh Wu of Tamkang University’s Department of French was honored on November 18 with the 29th Taiwan–France Cultural Award, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to promoting cultural and artistic exchange among Taiwan, France, and Europe. This marks another major international accolade for Prof. Wu, following his receipt of the French Education Knights of Honor from the France in Taiwan Association in 2016.

Dual Honors at the Golden Horse Awards, Yu-Hsun Chen & Ke-Yin Pan’s Authentic Creations Earn Widespread Resonance and Acclaim
Directed by Yu-Hsun Chen, an alumnus of the former Department of Educational Media and Library Science (now the Department of Information and Library Science), “A Foggy Tale” claimed the most honors at this year’s Golden Horse Awards.

The 62nd Golden Horse Awards Ceremony was held on November 22, where Tamkang University alumni once again delivered remarkable results. Yu-Hsun Chen, an alumnus of the former Department of Educational Media and Library Science (now the Department of Information and Library Science), saw his film A Foggy Tale sweep Best Narrative Feature, Best Original Screenplay, Best Art Direction, Best Makeup & Costume Design, and the Audience Choice Award, making it the biggest winner of the night. Meanwhile, Ke-Yin Pan, an alumnus of the Department of Mass Communication, won Best Adapted Screenplay for The Family Matters, which also received Best Supporting Actor, earning Pan his first Golden Horse Award.

TKU Wins Outstanding University & Innovative Growth Leadership Awards at the 2025 Taiwan University Sustainability Awards
At the 2025 TUSA, Tamkang University received the “Outstanding University Award for Comprehensive Sustainability Performance.” The award was accepted by Chief Sustainability Officer Ruey-Shiang Shaw (right) on behalf of the University and presented by Administrative Deputy Minister of Education Chun-Chang Chu.

Hosted by the Taiwan Institute of Sustainable Energy (TAISE), the winners of the 2025 Taiwan University Sustainable Awards (TUSA) were announced on November 8. Tamkang University once again delivered an outstanding performance, receiving both the “Outstanding University Award for Comprehensive Sustainability Performance” and the “Innovative Growth Leadership Award” for individual sustainability achievement, demonstrating TKU’s strong capabilities in sustainability governance and digital transformation. The awards ceremony was held on November 26 at the Grand Hotel. Chief Sustainability Officer Prof. Ruey-Shiang Shaw and Chief Information Officer Prof. Kuei-Ping Shih attended the event, with Shaw accepting the award on behalf of the University from Administrative Deputy Minister of Education Chun-Chang Chu.

The Final Teaching Evaluation Survey for this semester is now underway! The Office of Quality Assurance and Audit is conducting a questionnaire survey on teaching performance. From now until 1:00 p.m. on January 9, 2026, students may access the evaluation via the Teaching Evaluation Survey system (https://tas.in.tku.edu.tw/ ) or by scanning the QR code with a mobile device. After the responses are compiled and summarized, the results will be provided to course instructors as a reference for improving teaching quality (no student personal data will be disclosed).
