The 13th International Symposium on Information Management Was Concluded with A Big Bang in TKU

The 13th International Symposium on Information Management sponsored by Center for Information Processing and Department of Information Management, TKU, was concluded on May 25 with a big bang. A total of more than 400 people attended this convention; they also listened to 5 keynote speeches that in general touched upon Taiwan's economic development and its future outlook as well as the management strategy and the vision of IBM and Microsoft enterprises.

Once again, in an Inter-Collegiate English Speech Contest for 2002 sponsored by Ministry of Education, the veteran speech winner Miss Chung Yi-ti (Sophomore, English) won a third place, defeating all but two competent orators.

The TKU Cyberspace Page Design Contest was concluded last Friday (May 31) at 4:00 PM. So was the list of winners announced at the same time. All but Department of Architecture are new faces.

TKU Statistics Department Launched the First Website Statistics Station without Fail

The first website statistics station called TKU-Stat was successfully launched by the Department of Statistics, TKU. Besides offering software free of charge to "needy" students, this is also the first station, nationally speaking, that combines statistics and computation together, as well as carrying an extra function of calculating statistics and rate together on-line.

Three Inspectors from Ministry of Education Were Impressed with What They Saw in TKU

Three inspectors from Ministry of Education visited TKU on May 29 (last Wednesday). Aside from attending briefings, reviewing data and inspecting campus facilities, they also had had conversations with faculties and students. Inspector Mr. Chu Chen-chang said that the consensus impressions he got from the people he interviewed was invariably favorable.

Scholars from Beijing University Attended a Symposium on Mathematic Held at TKU

A 3rd Symposium on Mathematics was held last Monday and Tuesday (May 27 & 28), in which distinguished scholars from Beijing University, Professors Xie Zhong-jie, Geng Zhi, Fang Xiang-zhong and Liu Li-ping were honored guests of TKU. After the meeting, they were whisked away by their host, Mathematics Department, to pay a whirlwind visit to Academia Sinica, National Taiwan University and Tung Hwa University in Hualian.

TKU May Join National Library's Distance Library Service System in the Near Future

An active drive is being taken by TKU to join National Library Service System which, translated into literal terms, means that thru the mechanism of NL, the TKU international scholarly journals will be henceforth digitalized, and additionally, an on-line service on scanning the whole text of the journal will also be made available to website readers.

Division of General Education & Core Curriculum, TKU, Will Hold a Meeting to Review Its Past Works
