According to a study by 1111 Job Bank, “2004 Survey of Enterprisers’ Favorite Department and Schools,” TKU is ranked No. 2, behind National Chengchi University. The appraisal of TKU’s graduates, in the fields of Information Management, Risk Management, Insurance, Bills Finance, and International Trades are generally graded as the second place, with Dept. of International Trade and Dept. of Information Management respectively assessed as the first and the second choice.

INTERESTING CELEBRATIONS OF TKU’S BIRTHDAY BEGIN

The major activities celebrating TKU 54th birthday start at Tamsui campus and Langyang campus respectively on November 8 (next Monday) and 9. Activities include the ceremony of signing Nagasaki University (Japan) as TKU’s sister university, Sports Competition, exhibition of orchid, fair, charity sale for environmental protection and the second Egg-Roll Festival. Students have classes and staff punch cards on November 8 as usual.

ISO14001 ANNUAL AUDIT TAKES PLACE WEDNESDAY

Following Tamkang University’s successful application for ISO14001 environmental management system certification last year, the accrediting organization, SGS, is sending three auditors to Tamkang on Wednesday November 3; they will spend a whole day on campus examining the ways and results of environmental management at the University. President Flora C. I. Chang and the staff in charge will brief the auditors in B310.

GRADUATE INSTITUTE OF LIFE SCIENCES HOLDS MARINE BIOTECHNOLOGY FORUM

The Life Science Development Center, College of Sciences, is co-hosting with the Taiwanese Society for Chitin and Chitosan this Friday (November 5) the Marine Biotechnology Forum. Participants will discuss issues related to the chitin biotechnological industry, looking at the current research and development, the prospect and practical applications. Chitin and Chitosan are extracted from crab shells and can be used in diverse areas including medicine, chemical engineering, environmental protection, food, and agriculture.

3-DAY CONFERENCE ON FIRST-PRINCIPLE CALCULATION OF ELECTRONIC STRUCTURE

The Department of Physics is holding from Monday (November 1) to Wednesday in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall the 7th Asian Conference on First-Principle Calculation of Electronic Structure. The participants include forty scholars from Europe, the US, Japan and South Korea, and over ninety computational physicists in this country.

THE 9TH INTERANTIONAL ACADEMIC CONFERENCE OF LATIN AMERICA IN R. O. C. TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 7TH

The Graduate Institute of Latin American Studies is going to hold “The Ninth Academic International Symposium on Latin America in the Republic of China in Taiwan” at Ching-sheng International Conference Hall on November 7th and 8th. The subject of the conference this year is “Changes in the International Situation and Latin America: Globalization and Regionalism.”

TAIWAN KOJI POTTERY EXHIBITION TO OPEN ON NOVEMBER 5TH

Starting from this Friday, Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center will display “Taiwan Koji Pottery Exhibition.” Many works of arts with Taiwanese local colors will be presented in this exhibition. The Opening Ceremony will begin at 10:30 A.M. with the presence of TKU president, Dr. Flora C. I. Chang and Koji pottery collector Wu-nan Chuang. This exhibition will last until December 31.

Pao Ping Chai, a wine-culture research room of Dept. of History, will hold “Pao Ping Chai Wine Bottles Exhibition” on this Friday (November 5th), and there will be an opening ceremony at 4:30 p.m. In this exhibition, hundreds of wine bottles designed in the form of animals will broaden your vision.
