ON-LINE MA-CHONG ATTRACTS HUNDREDS OF COMPETITORS

The Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering is hosting its first “Information and Engineering Week” in the next five days. They have arranged an exhibition, speeches, presentations on technology together with a “One NT dollar Bidding” activity and a variety show. Most interestingly, there is also an on-line Ma-chong competition.

VOTING FOR STUDENT COUNCIL MEMBERS STARTS TOMORROW

Voting for student council chair, deputy chair and members will get under way from tomorrow onwards until May 12, when results will be announced at 8 pm at the Student Activity Center. This year, there are two pairs running for the chair and deputy chair, while 17 candidates registered for members.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE WEEK SHOWCASES CULTURE AND FOOD

The Foreign Language Week will kick off today (May 9th) with a series of traditional dances from various countries at the foyer in front of the Carrie Chang Music Hall at 12 noon today. Spectators are able to enjoy Japanese traditional dance with folding fans, French court dance, Spanish Flamingo, American Hip-hop, and Russian folks dance. They can also vote for their favorite three dances, which will be shown again in a bigger celebration, on May 13th.

SIX GOLDS, 8 SILVERS AND 4 BRONZES AT THE UNIVERSITY GAMES

2005 University Games held between April 20th and May 3rd at Chung Chen University in Chia-yi closed successfully with TKU winning several prominent medals in swimming, billiards, Taekwondo and Track & Field events. The results stand at 6 golds, 8 silvers and 4 bronzes, surpassing the 6 golds, 4 silvers and 8 bronzes of last year.

EXHIBITION OF FEMALE ARTISTS AT CARRIE CHANG ARTS CENTER UNVEILS

26 female artists based in Taiwan have exhibited their works, 90 of them, at the Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center on campus since May 13th for a period of over two months. The show ends on July 24th.

FRIENDLY VISIT TO EUROPEAN PARTNER UNIVERSITIES WAS A SUCCESS

TKU President, Dr. Flora Chang and several other delegates set out for a 10-day trip to the UK, Germany and France, visiting 4 partner universities at the end of April. They returned on May 4th bringing back some unforgettable memories and tangible results in future exchanges. There delegates accompanying her included Chen Hwei-mei, the Director of the Office of International Exchanges and International Education, Tzou chong-ko, the Director of the Graduate Institute European Studies and Tsai Shu-ling, the head of the French Department, who all possess an intimate knowledge of Europe.

JOURNEY TO JAPAN FOR INSPIRATION

Kao Po-yuan, the Vice President for Administrative Affairs, will leave for Japan with 9 of TKU’s senior administrators tomorrow to visit at least four Japanese sister universities, which are Heisei International University, Reitaku University, Chuo Gakuin University and Aoyama Gakuin University. During this visit, they will exchange views and experiences with the staff over there and meet with TKU alumni in Tokyo on Friday for lunch. They are scheduled to return on May 14th.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BONN, GERMANY VISITS TAMSUI CAMPUS

CROSS-CULTURAL DISTANCE LEARNING IS TO START IN OCTOBER

TKU made an agreement with Waseda University, Japan for a joint cross-cultural distance learning program (CCDL) sometime ago, with the Vice President for the Academic Affairs, Feng Chao Kang in attendance. A more general agreement between the two universities regarding academic and research cooperation in distance learning was signed by TKU President, Flora Chang and Waseda’s President, Katsuhiko Shirai on April 13th this year.
