TKU SKATING CLUB WON THE CHAMPION AT TAMKANG CUP SKATING CONTEST

Tamkang Cup Skating Contest was held by TKU Skating Club on May 21st, a beautiful sunny day. 50 students from six schools including Fu Jen Catholic University, National Yang Ming University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Taiwan Normal University, St. John’s and St. Mary’s Institute of Technology, and Chang Gung University joined the competition. TKU Skating Club won 9 events out of 15 in the speed contest and got the championship.

Lu Mu-ching and Shih Yi-ping, two graduates of the program of Secondary Teacher Education of TKU, now teachers of Taipei Municipal Nanhu High School, guided five students constructing the website “Gene Era─ A GMF Secret Garden” to join the “Doors to Diplomacy International Competition,” sponsored by the U. S. Department of State, and won the Honorable Mention Awards.

CONGRATULATIONS TO WINNERS OF WUHU-GAN LITERARY AWARDS

The final panel meeting and award ceremony of the 21st Wuhu-gan Literary Awards took place last Friday (May 27) in the College of Liberal Arts building. Huang Min-yi (freshman, Industrial Economics) won two first prizes for novel and short-short story. She said: “I started to try my hand at creative writing in senior high school. This was the first time I entered a competition, and I can’t believe I’ve won the first prize. I’m delighted.” The first prizes for modern poetry and essay went to Huang Hsin-huey (senior, Information and Communication) and Wu Yu-sheng (postgraduate, Futures Studies) respectively.

TKU FOUNDER HONORED AS PRESIDENTIAL CONSULTANT

The Office of the President, The Republic of China, announced a new list of National Policy Advisors and Consultants. TKU Founder Dr. C.P. Clement Chang was honored as Presidential Consultant; TKU faculty Dr. Hsin-huang Hsiao, Professor in the Graduate Institute of Southeast Asian Studies and Dr. Song-ken Hsu, Professor in the Department of Industrial Economics as National Policy Advisors. They are all non-salary positions.

FORMER PRESENT OF NAGASAKI UNIVERSITY OF FOREIGN STUDIES VISITS TAMKANG

Former Present of Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies, Akimasa Mitsuta, invited by the Graduate institute of Chinese linguistics and Documentation, College of Liberal Arts, visited Tamkang on May 30. He was scheduled to give three lectures and a performance in a concert at Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center on Wednesday evening.

GRADUATION CEREMONY TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY

7725 students, including undergraduates, masters, and doctorates, will attend graduation ceremony on at 10 A.M., June 4, 2005, at student Activity center, to welcome their new stage of life. Before the ceremony, graduates will walk around their beloved campus together at 9 A.M. The graduation ceremony is entitled “Transformation and Flying”—the metamorphosis of caterpillar to butterfly symbolizes that the students have experienced various stages of training and disciplining and are now ready for their next stage of development. Assisted by Equestrianism Club, the school provides carriage for the graduates to take photos at Scroll Plaza.

LANYANG CAMPUS TARGETS AT STUDENTS FROM BILINGUAL HIGH SCHOOL

Approved by Ministry of Education, Lanyang Campus will recruit 200 students to her four departments and two colleges this summer. According to Director of Lanyang Campus, Lin Jyh-horng, the recruitment will target at certain bilingual high schools. Last Wednesday (May 25), Director Lin, accompanied with two directors of campus organization, Lee Pei-chi and Tsai Jeng-yan, held a forum with teachers and students of Chong Tao High School of Yilan County to publicize the new campus.
