TAMKANG RECEIVES THE HIGHEST GRANT FROM MOE

Tamkang tops the rank among private universities in the grant and subsidy received from the Ministry of Education (MOE), after having been rewarded NT$ 157 million due to outstanding performances in the annual pan-university assessment this year, particularly in the categories of "The Overall University Achievement" and "Development Plans of the University Affairs". Dr. Flora Chang, TKU President is extremely pleased with the news, as it is another positive sign of recognition from the government. An earlier recognition came in August when TKU was confirmed to be the best in many categories among Taiwan's private universities in the assessment.

ALL GOOD THINGS COME IN TWO

The Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering received a permission from the MOE to establish a Masters Programs for Networking and Communication, and is expected to recruit 15 students from 2006.

LONG-DISTANCE FOR IN-SERVICE

The Center for Distance Education at the College of Education is currently planning in opening more long-distance courses for the In-service Masters Programs. It is projected that there will at least one course taught long-distance in each class. Concurrently, the Center is working on the possibility of offering more undergraduate courses on the Intranet. Both plans attempt to comply with the most recent guidelines revised by the MOE regarding distance-learning teaching in higher education that was announced in August. According to this revision, the total credits of students awarded from long-distance courses can account for half of the required credits required for graduation, rather than one third of the total required credits. This revision also allows faculties in higher educational institutes to offer half of their courses in each semester on line, provided the MOE has agreed in advance.

FAIRY TALES RELIVED ON DAYS OF ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

In commemorating the 55th founding anniversary of TKU, the university Student Association (SA) will host a four-day fun fair on the Post Street from November 5th onwards. During which, all student clubs will put out stands and organize activities, such as Egg Roll Festival, and events and reenactments of scenes taken from various famous fairy tales.

STUDENTS OF DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE WILL GO ON STUDIES IN US ON GOVERNMENT FUNDING

Lai Ji-rui and Chuang Zhi-chao, classmates and alumni from the Department of Architecture, have passed the exam, which allow them to study in the US on the government's funding. Lai will study the operation and management of museums, whereas Chuang will do stage/exhibition design and digital architecture under architecture and the design of space/

SCHOLARS FROM BOTH SIDE OF THE STRAIT MEET TO DISCUSS CONTINUING EDUCATION

The Division of Continuing Education will host a two-day symposium on issues related to the continuing education on China Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan in Taipei Campus and Lanyang Campus on Thursday, 20th of October. Scholars from these regions will attend to discuss the promotion of education, future and current situations of continuing education. They will also spend a day to visit Lanyang Campus.
