COLLEGE OF MANAGEMENT BIDS FAREWELL TO ITS GRADUATES

The seven departments under the College of Management will hold their commencement ceremony individually today. Professors, students, and their family members will use this opportunity to share an unforgettable moment by watching films and enjoying music together.

EMBA CELEBRATE GRADUATION

The newly established EMBA (Executive Master’s Programs of Business Administration) is holding its own graduation ceremony today. There are 8 EMBA programs under the seven departments within the College of Business and College of Management, so the ceremony has been jointly organized by all departments concerned. Dr. Wong Jun-ching, the chief executive of the program will host the ceremony that will be attended by over 300 people made up of 160 graduates accompanied by 130 family members and several staff and faculty members.

ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT HOLDS AN OSCAR-LIKE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

This year’s commencement ceremony held by the Department of Architecture on June 17 at Si-Men Market, Taipei, tries to break away with tradition. Instead of merely speeches and an awards ceremony, the department this year will have live music performances, and a collage of films that show memorable moments of students and teachers. Furthermore, the ceremony will be light-hearted with a touch of Oscar-like atmosphere, giving out awards that include Best Design, Outstanding Academic Performances, and Mystery Awards. In between the awards, there will be films showing graduates and professors speaking about interesting and funny anecdotes of their experiences at the department.

PARENTS OF OVERSEAS CHINESE STUDENTS INVITED

The Overseas Chinese Student Guidance Section is holding a reception at their office to invite the parents and family of TKU’s overseas Chinese students. Over 100 of them, coming from Malaysia, Indonesia, Macau, Korea, and Paraguay are expected to attend. Some students have several family members flying over for this event. Liang Hou-ming from the Department of Information Management, for instance, had 18 family members arriving from Hong Kong yesterday to be with him. At the reception, they will be shown the pictures and films of students that document their life, studies, and extra-curricular activities.

FORUM TO DISCUSS SERVICE LEARNING AND HIGHER EDUCATION

The College of the Education of TKU, together with Chung-yuan Christian University and Shih-chien University, co-organized a forum, entitled: Beyond the Campus: Forum on Service Learning and Higher Education, on June 11, Taipei Campus. In this forum, the philosophy and applications of social and community service courses in the higher education in the US were examined. At the same time, the policy and implementation of such a philosophy by Taiwanese government at local universities were also discussed.

RECORD NUMBER OF OUTGOING PH.D STUDENTS

According to the statistics provided by the Office of Academic Affairs, there are a total number of 7,362 graduates this year that include 59 students who will be awarded with a Ph.D. degree at various times of this year. The latter is a record number for Tamkang University. Among the 59 Ph.D. candidates, 26 of them are from the College of Engineering alone. More than half of these 26 (14) are from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering. The rest is made up of 7 candidates from the College Business and College of Management, and 8 candidates from the College of Science. 33 of them who have completed all the requirements will receive their diploma in the commencement ceremony today, whereas the other 26 candidates are scheduled to complete theirs later this year.
