RENOWNED ARCHITECTS JOIN THE WORKSHOP OF DEPT. OF ARCHITECTURE

Department of Architecture held a ten-days “Workshop of Low Rise Sustainable Communities along River at Danhai New Town” on last Friday (Feb 7.) The convener invited famous architects, Dr. Shinohara Satoko, Chair of Institute of Architecture & Interior Design, Japan Women’s University, and Dr. Otsuki Toshio of Tokyo University of Science to be the instructors of the workshop. The convener Dr. Bee Kuang-chein, Assistant Professor of Dept. of Architecture, expressed, the workshop aims to incorporate “residence strategies” with “environmental concerns” to deal with the resident problems in Taiwan.

TAIWANESE CULTURE WEEK

The yearly TKU Taiwanese culture week is open! If you want to taste the specialties of diverse cities and counties, you definitely can not miss the “Full Taiwan” activities from this Monday to Friday (14th). Alumni Associations of 15 counties and cities will host stalls at the post street. There are not only the rare ostrich jerked meat, Tong Gang doubled-cake, but also some special food of the fertile counties, such as the taro sago dew and the malt sugar cookies. Don’t miss this fresh and sweet chance.

DEADLINE OF APPLY FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS: MARCH 17

The 2008 Exchange Students Program with TKU sister universities is open for applications again！Only twenty three students of TKU are allowed to ten sister universities in various countries, including USA, Korea, Japan, France, Germany, and Belgium. The period of studying abroad is from Sep. 2008 to June 2009. The span of applications for this program are from March 10 to 5 p.m. March 17. “Those who are sophomore and first year graduate students should not miss it！” said Chi Shu Jen, coordinator of Office of International Exchanges and International Education.

TAKING TOEIC TEST AT TKU

Here is a piece of good news! College of Business has successfully applied for an in-campus TOEIC test. By saving the students’ expenses in traffic, such a project is expected to enhance students’ willing to join in the test. The test is scheduled to take place at 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, at Main Engineering Building.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WORLD SECURITY: MARCH 10

“The Third International Conference on World Security,” co-hosted by International Studies College, TKU, and International Relations College, American University, is to take place on March 10, at Ching-sheng International Conference Hall. The theme of the conference is “The Security and Prosperity of East Asia and the World.” Mr. Liang Ying-pin, Secretary General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is invited to address in the opening ceremony. Dr. Tai Wan-chin, Vice President for International Affairs, indicates that American University has been contracted as TKU’s sister university since December 2007, we expect this conference to initiate the academic cooperation between the two universities.
