“SITUATIONAL LANGUAGE LAB” AND “LANGUAGE LEARNING AND ASSOCIATION ZONES” TO FOSTER CREATIVE ENGLISH TEACHING AND COMMUNICATION WITH FOREIGN STUDENTS
In cooperation with the Teaching Excellence Projects, Distance Education Development Section has refurbished the “Situational Language Lab” (T307) and “Language Learning and Association Zones” at the basement of Foreign Languages and Literatures Building, which will be initiated at the opening ceremony for “Tamkang Elite Show” and “Center for Digital Language Research” at 4 pm, May 22. In the mean time, Founder Clement Chang, President C. I. Chang, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Chen Kan-nan, Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Kao Pao-yuan, Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Tai Wan-ching will host the ceremony together. Kuo Chin-hwa, Section Chief of Distance Education Development Section, indicates that “to foster an excellent learning, we should facilitate an excellent teaching environment” for the improvement of English language teaching. Dr. Sung Mei-hua, Dean of College of Foreign Languages and Literatures, points out that the two new spaces are designed for the enhancement for the communication between local and foreign students.

ADMINISTRATION GROUP VISITED SISTER UNIVERSITIES
An eight-people administration group, led by the Vice president for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Kao Po-Yuan, went abroad for a 7-day visit since June 5th. They aimed to visit the sister universities, including University of Queensland in Australia, University of Waikato in New Zealand, and University of Hong Kong. Vice Prsident Kao said, “This journey aims to visit the administrations of our sister schools, to realize their administrative measures and discuss on projects of advanced cooperation.” The members of the group include Dr. Chen Hwei-mei, Director of Office of International Exchanges and International Education, Kuo Chin-hwa, Section Chief of Distant Education Development Section, and five staffs, including Lee Ching-yi of Office of International Exchanges and International Education, Chu Hsin Yin of Office of Academic Affairs, Chen Hui-chuan of Office of Student Affairs, Su Seng-yi of Office of General Affairs, and Hsu Chia-hui of Cheuh-sheng Memorial Library.
THE 4TH TAMKANG INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ECOLOGICAL DISCOURSE HELD BY ENGLISH DEPT.
The Fourth International Conference on Ecological Discourse, held by Dept. of English, on May 23rd and 24th, in Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall, Chung-ling International Conference Hall (Q409) and step-classroom of College of Education (Q306). The paper presenters include more than 50 scholars coming from the United States, Germany, Australia, Italy, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea, India, Malaysia, and Taiwan. The presentations are divided into two sessions and proceed at the same time.
