MARKETING DANSHUI WITH COSPLAYING
Center of Creative Learning and Innovation Industry and Danshui Historic Sites cooperate to promote Danshui cultural industry by cosplaying at the scenic spots around the Old Street of Danshui.

A series of cosplay activities to promote Danshui cultural industry, “Flowing Cultural Theatre—Danshui College,” co-hosted by the center of Creative Learning and Innovation Industry of College of Liberal Arts, and Danshui Historic Sites, have been held at the scenic spots around the Old Street of Danshui, 11 A.M. to 5 P.M., every Saturday and Sunday, from November 29 to December 21. The tourist guides wear costumes of Dr. George Leslie Mackay and his wife, the British consul’s wife, and pirate, in the cosplay. The organizers invite Mr. Chen Chia-kuei, a master graduate of performance arts from England and an alumnus of Dept. of Mass Communication, TKU, as the director, and Mr. Shih Yi-huan, performance artist, and an alumnus of Dept. of Mass Communication, as the stage assistant of the play.

GRADUATE STUDENTS OF DEPT. OF COMPUTER SCIENCE WON AWARDS FOR THEIR PAPERS

Dr. Shih Kuei-ping, Associate Professor of Dept. of Computer Science and Information Engineering, directed the paper “On Protecting a Vulnerable Area in Mobile Sensor Networks” by a Ph. D. program student Lee Chung-chih, a master program graduate Cheng Chien-hua, and a senior student Lin Sheng-jung, and won the Award of Best Conference Paper in the section of wireless web and mobile communication, at TANET 2008.

The result of creative bus stopshelter contesthasbeen revealed.

The result of Creative Bus Stop Shelter Contest, held by TKU Promoting Safe Campus Group, has been revealed. Hsu Chang-yu, a senior of Dept. of Architecture, Lin Chang-yen, a senior of Dept. of Transportation Management, and Tseng Chien wei, a-second-year master student of Dept. of Architecture, won the first, second, and third place. They could get 5,000, 3,000, and 1,000 NT Dollar prize respectively.

REPRESENTS OF SHANGHAI FINANCE UNIVERISTY VISITED TKU TO DISCUSS COOPERATION MATTERS

Dr. He Ying, Vice President of Shanghai Finance University (SFU), as well as other 6 representatives from her school, visited TKU on Dec. 3., and exchanged opinions about the mutual cooperation project in the future with Dr. Tai Wan-chin, Vice President for International Affairs, and Prof. Lin William T. of Dept. of Banking and Finance at Room 306, Ching-sheng Memorial Hall. Both sides will sign an academic cooperation agreement recently, and expect to carry out the exchange student program in 2009 academic year.

BIKEID, A COMPANY STATIONED IN CHAMPION INCUBATOR CENTER, CREATED DATABASE TO PREVENT BIKES FROM BEING STOLEN

BIKEID, a company stationed in TKU Champion Incubator Center, has set up a website for bikers, assisting them to establish a bike database where the detailed information of their bikes is included, so that when their bikes are lost, they can announce the message on the website and request others to look for the missing bikes. In other words, the website can be called the “Bicycle Office” for the bikers. This creative service attracts many medias to report, and Bikeid also won a medal of 2008 Venture Capital and Technology Industry Communication Program, run by Dept. of Economic Development, Taipei City Government.

Mr. OU, minister of MOFA, delivered a speech at TKU on DEC. 1.

Mr. Francisco H.L. Ou, Minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Republic of China, delivered a speech, “Taiwan’s Current Policies of Foreign Affairs” in the Latin American Forum, held by Graduate Institute of Latin American Studies at Ching-sheng International Conference Hall on Dec. 1. The speech attracted many people to attend, and drew great responses.

DR. TAI WAN-CHIN WAS INVITED AS A VISITING PROFESSOR IN CHARLES UNIVERSITY IN PRAGUE FOR FIVE DAYS

Dr. Tai Wan-chin, Vice President for International Affairs, was invited as a visiting professor in Charles University in Prague for five days by Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange, Czech Branch. During his five day’s visit in Charles University, one of TKU’s sister schools in Czech, Dr. Tai gave lectures under the title “The History of Taiwan and the Problems Ahead.”

FRANCISCO JOSE MARTINEZ LOPEZ, PRESIDENT OF UNIVERSIDAD DE HUELVA, SPAIN, VISITED TKU

Francisco Jose Martinez Lopez, President of Universidad de Huelva, Spain, and the dean of the university’s Asian Culture Center, Dr. Grace Mun Man Shum, paid a visit to Tamkang University to meet with President Flora C. I. Chang on December 3. President. Martinez and President Chang exchanged views on the possibility of further bilateral exchanges during their meeting.

DR. YANG CHI-MEI WON 3 CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES IN THE 15TH WORLD CHINESE BADMINTON INVITATION EVENT.
Dr. Yang Chi-mei of Office of Physical Education won the championship titles in three different categories, Mixed Doubles, Couple’s Doubles and Women’s Double, in the just-concluded 15th World Chinese Badminton Invitation Event.

Dr. Yang Chi-mei of Office of Physical Education won over 2700 athletes and bagged the championship titles in three different categories, Mixed Doubles, Couple’s Doubles and Women’s Double, in the just-concluded 15th World Chinese Badminton Invitation Event, held from November 14 to 16 in Kuming, China.

TKU STUDENTS STAGED STREET PLAY TO PROMOTE NON-SMOKING CAMPUS ENVIRONMENT
TKU students staged street play to promote non-smoking campus environment.

A number of freshmen students in the Department of Russian, together with members of the Chun Huei Club staged street play in front of the Fu Yuan at noon on December 4. The street play was aimed to familiarize students with the newly amended Tobacco Hazard Control Act, which prohibits smoking in schools at senior high level and below. The act will go into effect next January.
