TKU FOREIGN STUDENTS JOINED SPORTS TEAMS AND WON HONORS
Foreign students won 3 awards in Taekwondo Tournament: International Trade senior Alfonso Andres Martinez（Right 1）and Luis Enrique Andres Verde（Right 2）

TKU sports teams are boundlessly international! The TKU Soccer Team members are from 8 countries, and this is indeed unique in whole Taiwan. With their foot skills, they promoted soccer diplomacy by winning the 3rd place in the 3rd group in the 2008 College League Tournament Cup. They will go to Kaohsiung to take part in the 2009 College League Tournament Cup in the middle of this month. The TKU Taekwondo Society participated in the 12th Strong Bamboo Taekwondo Championship Tournament at Chiao Tung University on Nov. 28 and did well. Foreign students International Trade seniors Alfonso Andres Martinez, Luis Enrique Andres Verde and Chinese freshman Thomas Soukhahing won a gold, a silver and a bronze respectively.

The Department of Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering hosted the first Electro-Mechanical Engineering Week at the 3rd floor of the Main Engineering Building from last Tuesday to Friday (Dec. 1 to 4). Many things were there for faculty and students to try. Among all others, the Micro Flying Golden-Snitch attracted the most attention. It repeatedly crashed into the walls as students couldn’t control it properly, so the Golden-Snitch was “abused” out of the shape of a bird. All the students who had tried enjoyed it exaltedly.

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT WEEK DISPLAYED CREATIVE WORKS LIFELIKE
The Kingdom of Animals—Intelligence Development System for Young Children was most popular, and it won the “Outstanding Award” for the general category in the 2009 Information System Competition by the Department of Information Management.

The Information Management Department Association held the Information Management Week “MISEbook” at the Black Swan Exhibition Hall last week. The Exhibition showed 9 award winning system works. Information Management students exultantly introduced their system works and their creative points which made the works lifelike. The Kingdom of Animals—Intelligence Development System for Young Children was most popular, and it was worth its “Outstanding Award” for the general category in the 2009 Information System Competition by the Department. The Department also invited alumnus Zhi-ming Lin who is one of the creators of the website “Apartment for Love” to share his experience in foreseeing the trend of Internet social clubs. He hoped that students would develop their creativity by breaking through traditional way of thinking and let their creative products speak.

DISTANCE EDUCATION ACROSS NATIONS

The Cross Cultural Distance Learning Program (CCDL) jointly by TKU and Waseda University (Japan) hosted the “International Student Exchange Video Conference” at I501 Distance Education Classroom on Dec. 4. The participating universities include TKU, Waseda University (Japan), Dalian Jiaotong University (China), Dalian University of Technology (China) and Yonsei University (South Korea), etc. About 50 TKU students from the Department of English took part in the lively Video Conference, which provided all participating students with opportunities of giving speeches and discussions. The main theme of the Video Conference was about multi-cultural explorations. All TKU students broadened their international horizons through interactions with foreign students.

TKU HOSTED SEVERAL ACADEMIC SYMPOSIA

TKU is active in holding academic symposia. Together with Taiwan Association of Northeast Asian Studies, TKU’s Graduate Institute of Asian Studies held the “Asian Political and Economic Forum—The Situation of Asia after the General Election in Japan” at Taiwan International Conference Center on Nov. 28. This week the Departments of Public Administration and Insurance will host the academic symposia “Metropolis Operation and Cooperative Management” and the “2009 Insurance and Risk Management across the Straight” respectively.

CANADIAN SINGER CHARMED TKU FANS

The Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center invited Canadian singer Mister Green and his No. 9 Highway Band to give a concert of new rock and roll and folk songs at Carrie Chang Music Hall. The Band’s heartily rocking and rolling attracted a lot of funs including many parents with their kids who had felt the enthusiasm of rock and roll. Seeing the packed crowd of audience, Mister Green was very happy. He greeted the audience with fluent and humorous Chinese that teasingly amused the entire audience with laughter.

NEW EDUCATION TREND WITH 3-P CHAIN EDUCATION

The College of Education hosted a seminar on “3-P Chain Education” at Chung-ling Chung-cheng Hall on Dec. 2. Fwu-tyan Ho, Trustee of Dongguan Taiwanese Businessman Dependent’s School, was invited as the speaker. Mr. Ho explained that the concept of “3-P Chain Education” derived from two ancient Chinese educational ideas “Teaching all comers without discrimination” and “Teaching students in accordance with their aptitudes.” Through the effects of 3-P Chain Education (proper aptitude, proper capacity, proper time), the school can inspire and develop students’ maximum potentials.
