The 2011 TKU University Assessment

Next year, from April 13-14, members of the Higher Education and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEACT) will come to TKU’s Tamsui Campus to carry out an on-site assessment. To prepare for the assessment, TKU faculty and staff from each college and department (47 in total) have been conducting department-based evaluations, and have published a series of reports outlining suggestions for improvement. To present and discuss assessment findings, the 6th TKU Assessment Team Seminar was held on the 19th of November. Suggestions for improvement included the use of various kinds of student satisfaction surveys and other such practical ideas.

Lanyang Campus Prepares for Christmas

The TKU Lanyang Campus is set to hold a variety of exciting contests and competitions leading up to Christmas. On the 8th of December, the preliminary stage of a “Jingle Bells” Christmas carol singing competition will be held to usher in this year’s Christmas festivities. Wine Tasting Brings Feeling of France to Tamsui

This year’s annual TKU Beaujolais Wine Tasting was held on the 25th of November, on the first floor of the Foreign Languages building. The combination of quality wine, French music, and warm croissants and finger food turned the first floor lobby into a quaint French village. Before the wine tasting got under way, French Department Assistant Prof Zeng Ming provided a brief background on Beaujolais culture. He explained that the climate in the Beaujolais wine producing region is ideal for growing grapes; that Beaujolais wine is the most popular and widely purchased wine in France; and that each year, on the third Thursday of November, Beaujolais Nouveau is released around the world.

Applying for the 2011 NSC Research Grant

Each year in Taiwan, the National Science Council (NSC) provides research grants to individual scholars and academic institutions planning to conduct research projects. On the 30th of November at 12 noon, TKU will hold a seminar that will explain how to apply for a 2011 NSC research grant. During the seminar – which will be held at the Ching Sheng International Conference Hall – the Dean of the TKU Office of Research and Development, Shung-wen Kung, will demonstrate how to apply for the grant via internet. He will also answer any related questions.
