The TKU alumni wind music group was officially established on the 27th of November, 2010.

Kiss our Life! Challenge our Mind!

The Student Counseling Section, part of the Office of Student Affairs, this week held a series of fun activities at the Black Swan Exhibition Center. The event was “Kiss our Life! Challenge our Mind!” It was held to challenge students to explore and find out even more about the world through videos, audio files, and pictures.

TKU Student Wins ELLEgirl T-shirt Design Contest

Zeng Ran-feng, a 4th year student of the Department of French recently entered an ELLEgirl t-shirt design competition. With a background in French, this was her first time dabbling in design, and with 60 plus entrants in the competition – many of whom have professional design-related backgrounds – her ambitions were nothing if not modest.

A Tribute to Spanish Literature

For two weeks this month, from Dec. 10-24, the TKU Graduate Institute of the Americas is set to stage a lecture tribute to the 2010 Nobel Prize laureate, Mario Vergas Llosa, and a book display that will showcase the works of six past Latin American Nobel Prize winners and that of Ruben Dario.

Tasting French Delicacies

This week, on the 9th of December, the TKU French Department will be holding a French delicacy food-tasting activity. Participation is limited to 50 places and registration ends on the 7th of Dec.

The presentation ceremony of the National 2010 European Union Short Film Competition was held recently, on the evening of Nov. 29. The winning film was a joint production by TKU Graduate Institute of European Studies student, Lin Pei-heng, and National Taiwan University of Arts student, Wang Wen-yi.The two students drew on their deep understanding of European culture and expert film production skills to design a vivid short film based on the theme of a postcard.

A Map for the Disabled

In recent weeks, TKU students have been surveying disabled facilities across the entire TKU Tamsui Campus. They have done so for a very specific purpose. The students are designing a road map of the best, most user-friendly routes to be taken by physically disabled students at the Tamsui Campus. They are creating a “map for the disabled”.

On the 30th of Nov., TKU’s Lanyang Campus was host to a special dinner. Organized by the Lanyang Campus Office of the Director, the dinner was an informal gathering, which featured the President of TKU, Dr. Flora Chia-I Chang, along with 300 newly arrived Lanyang freshmen. Also in attendance was the TKU Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Po-yuan Kao, the Vice President of International Affairs, Dr. Wan-chin Tai, as well as several TKU faculty and staff.

5th year TKU Department of Architecture student, Li Chen-an, has taken top honors in the 2009-2010 design competition “form‧Z Joint Study Program”. For his award-winning piece, entitled “Launching from Taipei 101”, Chen-an designed a futuristic, fantasy-style model of Taipei City, with a central focus placed on Taipei’s prominent 101 building. In the model, Taipei 101 becomes the central hub from which small, translucent shuttlecrafts disembark, flying passengers to various points around Taipei. During their trip, passengers are able to glance out from the craft’s glass shell for a spectacular 360 degree view of Taipei. The concept combines a renowned Taipei landmark – in the form of 101 – with a brand new means of transportation, to redefine the way in which Taipei residents view their city.
