The Cross-Strait Female Art Exhibition
A stunning painting by renowned artist, Shiow-Chung Liang, on display at the TKU Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center.

The Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center is currently holding a unique art display that showcases the artwork of 84 well-known female artists from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

4th Year TKU Student Wins Web Design Competition

Recently, 4th year TKU Department of Information and Communication student, Chen Jin Cheng, took top honors in an E-portfolio design competition. In doing so, he outshone 47 entrants from 20 universities around Taiwan to claim a certificate and NT $30,000 in cash prizes.

TKU Alumnus Awarded Second Place in Major Photo Contest

Former Tamkang Times news photographer and TKU Department of Transportation Management alumnus, Wang Wen Yan, recently took part in one of Taiwan’s foremost photography competitions, the 2011 Taiwan Press Photo Contest. Out of a total of 150 photography entries, he advanced to claim second place in the ‘portrait’ category of the competition.

Giving Back to the Community

To increase interaction between TKU and the broader community, Tamkang’s Community Service courses will continue in the 2nd semester of the 2011 academic year. Through such courses, TKU students not only get to go into the community to lend a helping hand, but also learn the priceless value of serving the community.

TKU Students Go Book Club Crazy

In order to nurture in students a more proactive approach to study, from the second semester of 2009, the TKU Center for Learning and Teaching has been promoting the formation of book clubs. Students have responded with enthusiasm. The number of book club groups has risen from 13 at the beginning of the initiative, to 23 groups last semester.

TKU Volunteers in Cambodia

During this year’s Chinese New Year vacation in February, a group of 12 TKU students went to Cambodia to serve as volunteers. It was the group’s fourth time volunteering in Cambodia. Before departing, they tirelessly organized their luggage, taking out all non-essential items to make room for goods that they would distribute to the local students.

On the afternoon of Feb. 23rd, the Department of Tourism and Hospitality at the TKU Lanyang Campus held its first ever cocktail show. In preparation for the event, eight long tables had been set up. One participant stood behind each of the eight tables. Their mission was to complete the first stage of cocktail preparation in 6 minutes. This stage involved laying out the required tools and making the ingredients to be used in the cocktails. Participants then had just one minute to mix the ingredients and make the cocktails. Their actions became rapid, as they squeezed, brewed, iced, mixed, and shook their ingredients. The crowd was delighted with the show of skill, and began applauding and cheering. The finished cocktails included a Blue Coral, a Shirley Temple Smoothie, and an Orange Squash.

Since becoming the first university to be recognized as a safe school by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2008, TKU has continued to promote health and safety at each of its campuses, and has gone into the community to lend a helping hand through its Community Service courses. Word of Tamkang’s achievements have spread far and wide. That is why, on the 18th of March, the Deputy Minister of the ROC Department of Health, Chen Tzay-Jinn, along with approximately 60 other health officials from around Taiwan, visited the TKU Tamsui Campus.
