TKU Dance Clubs Dance for Their Lives

Fighting a battle with weapons is nothing out of the ordinary. But try fighting a battle with dance moves alone. On the 5th June, the TKU Dance Club held its end-of-semester performance, which incorporated skillful dance steps into the background theme of ‘war’. Guest appearances were made by the TKU Magic Club and the TKU Extreme Dance Student Association. Dance styles displayed on the night included jazz, hip hop, reggae, as well as martial arts style performances.

The International Cross-Cultural Event: Tamscar

On the 8th June, the TKU International Office held the ‘International Cross-Cultural Event: Tamscar’. The event was an extravagant farewell party and send-off for graduating international and exchange students, which featured entertainment, awards, and several touching speeches. The name ‘Tamscar’ is a portmanteau or combination of the words ‘Tamkang’ and ‘Oscar’. Thus, the style of the event was fashioned on the glitzy nature of the Oscars, but tailored to the unique local culture at Tamkang.

Two Concerts to End the Semester

At 7:30pm on June 22 and 7:00pm on June 23, the TKU Choir and the TKU Wind Ensemble Club will hold two separate concerts at the Luzhou KHS Hall, Taipei. The TKU Choir Concert will feature several modern Japanese melodies as well as various performances of African American soul music.

TKU Clubs and Societies: Passing on the Legacy

On the 3rd June, the TKU Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section held a ‘Passing-on-the-Legacy’ Symposium for Tamkang Clubs and Societies. In all, 250 current and future club leaders attended the event, in which graduating leaders passed their knowledge and experience onto those set to take their place in the coming academic year. The symposium allowed for interaction between similar kinds of clubs, and featured several stage plays that humorously portrayed the busy lives of TKU club and society members.

TKU Promotes Taiwanese Education Abroad

The Director of the TKU Office of International Exchange and International Education, Dr. Pei-Wha CHI LEE recently attended the NAFSA 2011 Annual Conference and Exposition. During the conference and exposition (May 27 – June 1), which is the largest one on the annual academic calendar, TKU not only set up a display stand that showcased the features of higher education in Taiwan, but also held Taiwan Forum and Taiwan Night activities, to promote Taiwanese education abroad. Taiwan Forum introduced the unique aspects of higher education in Taiwan, while Taiwan Night enabled for interaction between Taiwanese and overseas universities, who discussed the possibility of mutual academic exchange.

Last Saturday, the TKU Lanyang Campus held its 3rd Commencement Ceremony, which was conducted in English. A total of 249 students graduated from the College of Global Research Development and the College of Community Development. Graduation certificates were personally distributed by TKU President, Dr. Flora Chia-I Chang.

The 65th Annual School Administration Conference

On the 8th June, Tamkang University held its 65th School Administration Conference at the TKU Chueh Sheng International Conference Hall. During the conference, a number of draft resolutions proposed during the recent 119th Administrative Conference were passed. These included items related to cooperation between business and academia, such as hiring external experts to share their knowledge and experience in business with local TKU students, as well as plans for increased interaction with TKU’s overseas sister universities.

2011 Tamsui Campus Commencement

On the 11th June, over 7,000 TKU students officially graduated in a large-scale graduation ceremony held at the TKU Tamsui Campus. The main ceremony was held in the Shao-Mo Memorial Gymnasium and was broadcast simultaneously on large TV screens across the campus and online.
