It’s Showtime!

It’s that time of year again, when students from the College of Foreign Languages and Literatures hold theater performances enjoyed by TKU students, faculty, and staff. The “public theatre performances”, as they are known, are held each year at the TKU Experimental Theater, one of the better university theater premises in Taiwan.

A Conference on the “China Effect” and the Future of “New Asia”

On April 26 – 27, the TKU Graduate Institute of Future Studies held the International Conference on the “China Effect” and the Future of “New Asia”. The conference explored the rise of China as a major international presence and the impact this will have on Asia’s future, and featured distinguished overseas scholars, such as Joon Shik Park (the Dean of the Global Education Institute, Hallym University); professor SchoolCruz from the Philippines, and Professor Feng Xiaotian from China’s Nanjing University.

Interpreting Classical Chinese Literature

From May 4 to 5, the TKU Department of Chinese Literature will hold the 14th Society and Culture International Academic Symposium. To be held at the Ching Sheng International Conference Hall, Tamsui Campus, the symposium will explore different interpretations of literary classics and will be attended by renowned scholars and experts from Mainland China, Japan, Singapore, and Spain.

A Symposium on Mechanisms for Quality Assurance

On April 27, the TKU Graduate Institute of Educational Policy and Leadership held a symposium that explored the quality assurance mechanisms used in both local and overseas universities.

A Lecture by Foreign Minister Yang

On April 25, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of China, Timothy Yang, came to the TKU Tamsui Campus to deliver a lecture on “New Opportunities and Strategies in ROC Foreign Diplomacy”.

Enhancing the Scope of English Tuition at Tamkang

To counteract the effect of plummeting birth rates on student numbers, the ROC Ministry of Education has loosened regulations related to international students, allowing students from Mainland China and SE Asia to pursue their college studies in Taiwan. In response, TKU President, Dr. Flora Chia-I Chang, recently said that the English learning environment at Tamkang should be enhanced to accommodate such students.

Discussing the Future of Higher Education

“Facing the Challenges of the 21st century: Competition or Collaboration?” This is the key question that educators in Taiwan are currently faced with. It is also the theme of a recent lecture delivered at TKU’s Tamsui Campus by world renowned scholar, Jamil Salmi.
