Recognition for the Supervising Teachers of Triumphant Student Clubs

The National Intercollegiate Student Club Evaluation is an annual event that gives student clubs an open canvas to show their feats and achievements over the academic year. It is also a chance to observe and learn, to sense what works, to lend and borrow structures that reap results. This year, out of 285 student clubs, societies, and associations from universities across Taiwan, two TKU clubs were recognized for excellence. One was the Pingtung Student Alumni Association, which received an Exceptional Club Award in the autonomous student association category. The other was the TKU Student Choir, which was conferred an Outstanding Club Award.

After recently reaching Hualien, the TKU Mobile Chemistry Lab continued to bedazzle local school children with its unique gull-wing door, its various shows and intriguing experiemtns. For over two years now, the Mobile Lab has delivered chemistry knowledge and “packaged” chemistry in a fun and exciting way in the hope of getting children from rural areas more interested in chemistry.

Publishing Books and Promoting Knowledge among the Public

Two Tamkang teachers recently published books in the hope of providing the general population with a deeper insight into their respective academic fields. The two teachers are Department of Chinese Literature honorary professor Dr. Fu Hsi-Jen, and Department of Architecture assistant professor Dr. Chi Jr-Gang.

2013 AI Forum

The staple event for artificial intelligence and information engineering experts in Taiwan is undoubtedly the Artificial Intelligence Forum, which this year drew scholars from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mainland China, America, Japan, Korea, and Singapore to share their extensive experience. TKU's Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Wan-Chin Tai, also attended the event and delivered the opening remarks.

The Second Haruki Murakami International Sysmposium

Haruki Murakami is a renowned Japanese writer and translator. To pay tribute to his influential works over the past several decades, TKU's Department of Japanese has a research office dedicated solely to examing and analyzing the works of Murakami. On May 5, the Haruki Murakami Research Office held the 2013 Second Haruki Murakami International Symposium.

A New Way of Thinking about Instruction

On April 25, the TKU Distance Education Development Section held an experience-sharing seminar on instruction and design and the production of digital teaching materials. The seminar featured special speaker Li Yan-Chiu, a leading project manager at an information technology company. The event attracted 28 teachers and students from both within and outside of TKU.

Patents and Research Grants for TKU Teachers

Chen Tzeng-yuan, a professor from the TKU Department of Aerospace Engineering, was recently granted a patent from the Republic of China (Taiwan) for a new, innovative bubble observation device used to view direct methanol fuel cells.
