Transition of Power Ceremony Takes Place

【Reported by Yi-ru Chen, Tamkang Times】On July 31st Tamkang University’s Office of the Secretariat held the 2014 Buda Management Transition Ceremony. There were close to 100 individuals in attendance including representatives of the College of International Studies and Asian Studies Complete English Masters Program, the Center Research and Development of Transportation and Logistics, and the Spring Village Research Center. They met with TKU’s Vice President of Academic Affairs, Vice President of Administration, the College of International Studies, the Office of Research and Development, the Department of Continuing Education, the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of Human Resources, the Office of Information and 31 upper level officials of Administration for the management transition.

WRWU’s Newest Postings Are Released

【Tamkang Times】Webometrics Rankings of World Universities (WRWU) has posted the newest results for July of 2014. Tamkang University is currently ranked as 401st in the world, 8th in the nation and is the only private university to make the cut. TKU is ranked 84th in the world in the category of Presence and 1,194th in the category of Impact, raising our index 478 places from the last survey according to the WRWU website (http://www.webometrics.info/).

TKU Signs Exchange Agreement to Cooperate with 200 Enterprises

【Reported by Jia-wen Lin, Tamkang Times】In order to create an environment that allows students to come in contact with “applicable academic knowledge” TKU has cooperated with over 200 enterprises including China Airlines, HIWIN, and Fubon Bank. On July 21st a press conference/signing ceremony was held in B2 of the Sheraton Hotel, officially establishing the long-term establishment of this academic industry project. President Chia-I Chang appeared in person to sign the contract and she presented a speech along with with President of the Board of China Airlines, Huang-Hsiang Sun and President of the Board of HIWIN, Yong-cai Zhuo.

Forbes Magazine List Asian Heroes of Academia

【Reported by Ji-yu Cai, Tamkang Times】American Financial Magazine, Forbes, has released an Asian edition for June that lists 48 heroes of the world of academia. Selected persons from Taiwan include Stock Investment Expert, Hang-chien Hsu, Manager at Fancy Wood Industries Public Co., Peng-xiong Li, Chairman of Ruentex Financial Group, Samuel Yin, and President of the Board of Everlight, Yin-fu Yeh.

Vice President Den Yi Wu Sends His Blessings For Shao-mo Activity Center Opened

Vice President Den Yih Wu (third on the left) was invited to Lanyang Campus and met with Founder Dr. Jianbang Zhang (front row second on the right), Dr. Carrie Chang (front row first on the right), President Flora Chia-I Chang (first on the left), Dean of the College of Global Innovative Development, Ai-hua Liu, and professors and administrators from each department of Lanyang. Den Yi Wu came to Lanyang for the celebration of the opening of the Shao-mo Activity Center to offer his blessings. President Chang expressed her gratitude for his honored support. She stated, “Vice President Wu’s blessing is certainly magnificent motivation for success. “

505 Students Followed Their Dreams Overseas

【Reported by Min-hua Wu, Tamkang Times】Tamkang University celebrated the annual International Flag Ceremony for 2014 with a total of 505 participants. In attendance was President Flora Chia-I Chang who invited Minister of the North American Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yi-peng Liang, Ministry official of the Department of International and Cross Strait Affairs of the Ministry of Education, Chun-chun Chang, member of the American Institute in Taiwan’s Cultural Center, Ms. Amelia Ortiz, Chairman of the Taipei Economic Cultural Office Canada, along with many other honored guests.

Students of the Department of Mass Communication Receive TVBS Award

【Reported by Kai-qi Zhang, Tamkang Times】Four Tamkang University senior students from the Department of Mass Communication: Chu-ruo Liu, Yu-shan Yan, Yun Wen, and Yi-zhen Chen received the “TVBS University News Award” in June. The contest for the most innovative product included 200 different groups from junior colleges all over Taiwan. In the end these students stood out from all the rest, winning a cash prize of 10,000 NT. They mentioned that they were honored to receive such an award and look forward to being able to attend more meaningful events in the future.

The 2014 Cross Strait Youth Forum Takes Place

【Tamkang Times】The Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs held the “2014 Tamkang University Cross Strait Youth Culture Forum” on July 20th with 85 teachers and students in attendance. Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, stated, “Since 2010 we’ve successfully held this forum and shared great ideas with our sister universities from mainland China. This has become an extremely productive exchange.”

Four High Schools Join Hands With TKU

【Reported by Qi Zhuo, Tamkang Times】In accordance with the Ministry of Education’s promotion of “University and High School Cooperation Plan” and the “Sharing of Educational Resources Plan”, on June 18th New Taipei City’s Jin He, Yong He, Zhu Yuan and Yong Chun High schools held a ceremony symbolizing the signing of the official agreement of cooperation with President Flora Chia-I Chang.

MICE Workshop Comes to TKU

【Reported by Yi-ling Huang, Tamkang Times】In order to develop professionals with a variety of skills, Tamkang University’s Innovative Center for Cultural and Creative Industries invited the International Congress and Convention Association on June 23rd for a five day “MICE” workshop. The current plan is to create more academic industry projects for the future in order to give students an opportunity to attain more hands on experience.
