President Flora Chia-I Chang’s welcoming address to new members of the university for 2015-16: Do you understand the reason why we’ve been given the title of best private university graduates for employment by the media for the last 18 years? Or the reason we’ve been ranked the number one private university among 500 in Taiwan? These are honored titles that we do not give ourselves, but is the recognition of our efforts to strive for perfection. We welcome newcomers to be a part of this rewarding challenge.

Summer Break Services Launch

The 2015 Summer Break Service Group Flag Ceremony took place on June 29th at the Chung-ling Chemistry Hall. The ceremony was held to officially send 16 student service teams around Taiwan and even to Cambodia to offer assistance. Vice-president of Administration, Yi-jen Hu, attended the ceremony to show his support and prepare students for the big trip. He stated, “These students embody the spirit of Tamkang University, which aims for simplicity, truthfulness firmness and perseverance. Their commitment will certainly act as a positive light for society and they will lead the way in warming hearts of the future.”

President Recognizes Retirees for their Great Contribution

On June 6th the Office of Human Resources held the 2014-15 Annual Second Semester Retiree Tea Party with a total 60 people in attendance, including 22 retirees. President Flora Chia-I Chang expressed her appreciation for their commitment and long-term dedication. She recommended that retirees continue to make plans, study their interests and take care of their body while she handed out souvenirs. Director of the Retired TKU Alliance, Lin-yun Shan, suggested that the retirees continue to use their administrative skills in their free time when the opportunity arises. He went a step further to explain that all of the retired members of TKU are like a large family.

Data Management Forum at TKU

On June 30th the Office of Quality Assurance and Audit held the 2014-15 Annual Department Management Training workshop in the Ching-sheng International Conference Hall. Director of the office, Di-ching Pai, expressed, “The Ministry of Education will arrive at the university on August 19th for the final department management evaluation. The standards and requirements of the assessors is quite substantial so we must all work together to confirm the accuracy of our data.”

500 Students Prepare to Ship Off

On June 6th the Office of International Affairs held the 2015-16 flag ceremony for exchange students heading abroad. The event was hosted by President Flora Chia-I Chang and in attendance were special guests Senior Officer of the American Institute in Taiwan, Mr. Richard Haddock, Deputy Director of General Relations of the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei, Mr. Shawn Tinkler, Specialist of Interchange Association Japan, Ms. Fumino Iwamura, and Commissioner of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Marisa Barreiro Fernández. Also in attendance were ten representatives of Tamsui Campus Departments and four representatives of Departments of Lanyang Campus.

WRWU Survey Finds TKU as the Most Searched Private University

The latest results of the July 2015 Webometrics Rankings of World Universities (WRWU) survey have been revealed, ranking Tamkang University at 478th in the world, 9th of all universities in Taiwan and 1st among 500 private universities in Taiwan. The internet search survey was based on 4 different categories including Presence, Impact, Openness and Excellence. TKU was placed at 815th in Presence, 370th in Impact, 202nd in Openness and 877th in Excellence.

TKU Remains Most Preferred Students for Employment

The 1111 Job Bank Internet Service released the results of the 2015 Most Preferred University Employee Graduates Survey, placing Tamkang University at first place from a pool of 1,152 enterprises. 1111 Job Bank’s Public Relations Supervisor, Da-hua Li, stated that TKU continues to be the best private university in Taiwan because of its long history of development in an informational, international and futuristic education program. He added that this program combined with other opportunities such as the Junior Overseas Study Program, is sure to cultivate the most ideal and well rounded personnel.

On July 30th in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall, the 2015 Transition of Power Ceremony took place. For the following academic year, 24 faculty members will take on administrative positions and there are 28 new positions to be filled in the College of Science’s Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, the College of Business and Management’s Global Financial Management, Department of Diplomacy and International Relations, the College of Foreign Languages and Literature, the Office of Research and Development and the Center for Learning and Teaching.

TKU Triumphs in Robotics Competition

From July 16th to the 18th there was a three-day contest titled the “National Robotics Competition” at the Nangang Exhibition Hall featuring three events: the 2015 Robotics Innovation Competition, the 8th Annual HIWIN Intelligent Robotics Implementation Competition and the 2015 SKS Intelligent Robotics Competition. On July 19th the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering’s robotic smart arms, “Bumble Bee MIT” and Bumble Bee Evo” won the 8th Annual HIWIN Intelligent Robotics Implementation Competition and took second place in the 2015 Robotics Innovation Competition in categories of TKU-DELTA Robotic Sensor Applications and the Tamkang Arm.
