Tohoku University Comes to TKU for Rewarding Exchange

【Hong-wei Lu, Tamsui Campus Report】Professor of the Department of International Education and Exchange of the Tohoku University, Hirokazu Moriya, came to Tamkang University on Mar. 24 with a team of 5 university representatives. The honored guests were greeted by Dean of the College of Engineering, Chii-dong Ho, to attend the “Welcoming Alliance Discussion.” Also in attendance was Director of the Office of International and Cross Strait Affairs, Pei-wha Chilee, Director of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Shiunn-jang Chern and Professor of the Department of Biology, Ping-hung Yeh.

Chuzhou University Becomes TKU’s Newest Sister School

On Mar. 22 Tamkang University and Chuzhou University officially signed an agreement, becoming sister schools. President Flora Chia-I Chang (right) and President Zhi-cai Xu acted as representatives in signing the agreement. The signing was witnessed by Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, Duan-jun Liang, as the two universities exchanged in the signing ceremony.

Three Hong Kong Schools Pay Visit to TKU

【Jin-yu Cai, Xin-yu Wang, Shao-qi Zhang, Tamsui Campus Report】On Mar. 22-23 three Academic Institutions from Hong Kong brought 50 high school students for a special visit at Tamkang University. In addition to visiting the Shao-mo Memorial Gymnasium, Chueh-sheng Memorial Library and the Chinese Palace-style Classrooms, they also had an enthusiastic exchange with the Hong Kong students of TKU.

2016 Night of TKU and Malaysian Alumni Association’s 20th Anniversary

【Kai-jun Lin, Jia-ling Liu, Lanyang Campus Report】On Mar. 19 the Malaysian Alumni Association held the “2016 Night of TKU” banquet in the Hotel Istana, welcoming the group’s 20th anniversary. In attendance was President Flora Chia-I Chang, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Huan-chao Keh, Director of Lanyang Campus, Jyh-horng Lin, Dean of the College of Global Development, Ay-wha Andy Liou, Executive Director of the Office Alumni Services and Resources Development, Chun-young Perng and directors of related departments. To express their appreciation for the support and guidance of TKU, the Malaysian Alumni Association made a generous donation of 3,000,000 NT to the university. President Flora Chia-I Chang, accepted the donation on behalf of TKU.

New Students Learn TKU Specialties

(Articles written by Pin-jie Chen, Xin-yu Wang)In order to allow new students to get a feel of the specialties of each department, the Admissions Section will hold the Department Exhibit with Lanyang Campus on April 2 and 3. Students and parents from all over Taiwan will be able to get a close look and description of the course regulations, curriculum design as well as career plans for 50 different departments. Director of the Admissions Section, Man-ching Tang, expressed, “Each department will give an explanation of the uniqueness of Tamkang University in every department, increasing aspirations and student enrollment numbers at TKU.”

Mu-yong Tao Wins Big for TKU, Taiwan and Burkina Faso

【Yu-xun Zhou, Tamsui Campus Report】First year student of the Department of Diplomacy and International Relations, Mu-yong Tao, travelled to Rome, Italy last week to participate in Harvard University’s “World Model United Nations” competition and won the Social Innovation Challenge Division, receiving 3000 US dollars. The competition consisted of 2,500 students from over 60 different countries discussing global issues. Not only did he bring great honor and attention to Tamkang University in this contest, he shined a spotlight on Taiwan.

TKU Alumni Receives Highest National Art Award

【Kai-jun Lin, Tamsui Campus Report】Alumni of the Department of German Language and Associate Professor of National Kaohsiung Normal University’s Graduate Institute of Interdisciplinary Art, Ma-li Wu, was awarded the 19th National Culture and Art Award, becoming the first woman to be honored with this recognition. She was presented with a prize of 1,000,000 NT during the award ceremony.

TKU is Number One in Academic Resources

【Wan-xuan Qin, Tamsui Campus Report】On Mar. 18 the National Central Library announced the results of the “Most Impactful Academic Resources Awards,” recognizing Tamkang University’s Department of Information and Library Science as number one in the division of Most Impactful Social Periodical Award for the quarterly “Journal of Educational Media and Library Sciences.” TKU was also awarded 5th place in the division of Best Academic Exposure for 2015-16.
