2016 Forum for European Trade

【Nian-qi Zhang, Tamsui Campus Report】Tamkang University’s Center for European Union Studies was awarded the Jean Monnet Program Subsidies and the ceremony is set to take place on April 22nd (Friday) at 9:20am on Taipei Campus for the 2016 European Union Trade Policy Forum. The forum will consist of professional lectures, a round table discussion, dissertations, leaders of European diplomatic affairs and discussions of expertise. Director of the European Economic and Trade Office, Madeleine Majorenko, has been especially invited to speak on the future plan of European trade policies.

【Yu-xun Zhou, Tamkang Campus Report】 From Apr. 4-6 Dean of the College of International Studies, Kao-cheng Wang, brought a group of 6 students for an exchange to sister school in South Korea, Kyungnam University. During the meeting they discussed issues of national security in Asia related to the Korean peninsula. Chinese ambassador of South Korea, especially invited TKU to have an exchange of ideas for the purposes of positive development. The South Korean educators expressed their concerns for the North Korean leadership while analyzing relations of America, Korea and China. Kao-cheng Wang expressed, “This exchange is very beneficial as it allows students to get a close look of the happenings in Korea.”

Renovations at the Business and Management Building

Director of the Office of General Affairs, Shiaw-shyan Luo, explained that during Academic Observation Week more walkways, rest chairs and space for club activities were designed for the Business and Management Building to make life more convenient for students. There will also be more innovations to make the walkways greener, more exciting and more enjoyable for teachers and students alike. In addition, more provisions will be made for disabled persons and a mobile vendor will be added to make food more accessible.

TKU Helps Launch 12th World Filtration Congress

【Hong-wei Lu, Tamsui Campus Report】From Apr 11-15 Tamkang University in cooperation with Taiwan Filtration and Separations Society, National Taiwan University, Chung Yuan Christian University, Taiwan Textile Research Institute, Solid-Liquid Separation (RASLS) and the Industrial Technology Research Institute jointly held the 12th World Filtration Congress (WFC12) at the Taipei International Convention Center. The congress consisted of over 500 educators from 30 different countries. President Flora Chia-I Chang expressed, “The World Filtration Congress is one of the greatest academic research gatherings to take place in the world. I’m grateful and honored to be able to participate and I’m grateful for everyone’s support.”

Tomita Akira’s Tips for Taiwanese Language

Associate Professor of the Department of Japanese, Tomita Akira, has an exceptional fluency in Taiwanese language and if you heard him talking, you’d think he was Taiwanese. He moved to Taiwan from Japan sixteen years ago and is a great appreciator of the heritage and history. While he was in Japan studying for his PhD in International Studies, his research lead him even deeper into the historical links of Taiwanese language and what it means to be an exceptional language learner. He believes that to truly understand a language, you must also have an in depth understanding of why people speak the way they do and what it represents.

President Chang Prepares Students for National Sports Competition

【Wan-xun Qin, Tamsui Campus Report】The flag ceremony for the National Junior College Sports Meet took place at noon in the Shao-mo Memorial Gymnasium. President Flora Chia-I Chang and Director of the Office of Physical Education, Shu-feng Hsiao, expressed best wishes to the team representatives as the great flag dance took place, invigorating the audience to shout, “Go! Go! Go!”

When Shakespeare Met Cervantes

【Hui-ping Liu, Wan-xun Qin, Tamsui Campus Report】The Chueh-sheng Memorial Library in cooperation with the College of Foreign Languages and LIterature configured the second floor into a book display themed “When Shakespeare Met Cervantes” for World Book and Copyright Day. The display featured places that the two artists had traveled to including Italy, Denmark, Rome, Balkans and other related themes of literature, culture, travel and history.

Improving Young Student Mobility

【Chang-yu Chen, Zhao-yu Chen, Tamsui Campus Report】On Apr.12 a teacher workshop was held in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall for the promotion of the Ministry of Education’s “Improving Young Student Mobility Plan.” The plan is set to take place from 2016-2019 and will be executed by the College of Education for the purpose of improving student global perception in terms of communication skills, adaptability, professional skills and practical application.
