CHENG CHENG-KUNG COMMAND SHIP COLLECTED BY TKU MARITIME MUSEUM WITNESSES TAIWAN CONTEMPORARY HISTORY

“Touching on the historic relics of Formosa, one can not ignore the command ship of Cheng Cheng-kuo or Kuoxinga, ” so said Su Sheng-yi, Chief of the Maritime Division, Chueh-sheng Memorial Library.

Su highly recommended the faculty and students to visit the ship when an exhibition of “Formosa: Taiwan, Holland and East Asia in 17th Century sponsored by National Palace Museum (NPM) was being held at NPM.

Su said that Cheng Cheng-kung used Taiwan as a base to fight against Ching Dynasty to restore the Ming Dynasty. He took this command ship to successfully land on Lukang, central Taiwan. Cheng then made his best efforts to build Taiwan so he had greatly contributions to Taiwan in history.

Therefore, the exhibition sponsored by National Palace Museum would not be a complete one if the Cheng Cheng-kung Command Ship were not included, Su said. The model of Cheng Cheng-Kung Command Ship, which is being collected by TKU Maritime Museum was donated by TKU alumni Dr. Michael Huang, President of Armstrong University in the United States.
