TKU PRESIDENT SUCCESSFULLY ACCOMPLISHES TAIWAN HIGHER EDUCATION EXHIBITION IN MALAYSIA

Tamkang University (TKU) President Dr. Chang Horng-jinh with his 11-member delegation has successfully accomplished the mission of the Taiwan higher educations exhibition with the aim of recruiting more overseas Chinese students in Malaysia to pursue their study at the universities and colleges in Taiwan.

The delegation comprised responsible officials for overseas Chinese student guidance and counseling from 11 universities and colleges around Taiwan was organized by the Ministry of Education.

TKU President and Chen Chih-cheng, President of the Association of Overseas Chinese Students who had studied in Taiwan in Malaysia (AOCSTM), jointly presided over an opening ceremony of the exhibition held at the Great China Hall in Kuala Lumpur on Dec. 14, 2002.

Malaysian Deputy Education Minister witnessed the ceremony and Wang Chun-chuang, a specialist at the Ministry of Education, the Republic of China, and Deng Shih-hsiung, Adviser to Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Kuala Lumpur also spoke at the ceremony.

TKU President Chang briefed attendants the current situation and development of universities and colleges in Taiwan. Wang Chun-chuang explained the policy of Ministry of Education towards overseas Chinese students in Malaysia who intend to study in Taiwan. Chang and Wang answered questions raised by Malaysian mass media and guests, including Kwonhwa Jit Poh and Sin Chew Jit Poh. They had played up their report of the exhibition. Local media also interviewed TKU President Chang and Malaysian Deputy Education Minister.

Universities and colleges in Taiwan taking part in the exhibition set up stands at the exhibition site to offer data and answers to the questions raised by the visitors. A multimedia broadcasting room was set up at the exhibition site to introduce university’s current situation and development in rotation basis through computer. A DVD briefing through computer and e-mail address of universities in Taiwan was also set up at the exhibition site. The exhibition had attracted a lot of overseas Chinese students in Malaysia to attend.

The AOCSTM, which took charge in organizing the exhibition in Malaysia, said that the exhibition had achieved an unprecedented success and hoped that the exhibition would create another high peak of overseas Chinese students in Malaysia backing Taiwan for study.

The universities and colleges, which took part in the exhibition, and Overseas Chinese Education Council, Ministry of Education, have highly confirmed the TKU-sponsored exhibition. TKU alumni in Malaysia had enthusiastically rendered their services to help realize the exhibition. They also said that they would voluntarily work for upgrading TKU’s image in Malaysia.

TKU Alumni Association in Malaysia hosted a luncheon party in honor of TKU President Chang Horng-jinh at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur on Dec. 15. Wu Wen-ya, ROC Representative in Malaysia and AOCSTM President Chen Chih-cheng were also invited to attend. A TKU briefing was shown during the annual convention of the association. TKU President also officiated at the opening of TKU alumni network.
