PRESIDENT OF THE PANAMA CENTURY TIMES VISITED TAMKANG, HIGHLY PRAISED THE SCHOOL'S FACILITIES

“Tamkang’s buildings and facilities are very modernized; the learning atmosphere is very pleasant,” indicated the President of Panama Century Times, Mr. Ebrahim Asvat, who visited Tamkang at nine last Thursday (Sept. 25). He met President Chang and Director of the Office of International Exchange Lily Hui-mei Chen and attended a panel discussion with students. He was impressed by Tamkang’s campus.

Mr. Ebrahim Asvat received his Ph. D. at the Law School, Harvard University. He once held the posts of the counselor of law at Panama’s parliament and the host of RPC Television and Radio, and established a law office. He was a significant senior player in Panama’s media and law affairs. He came to Taiwan to attend the Conference of the Democratic Pacific and observe the prospects of a Taiwan-Panama trading relationship.

Mr. Ebrahim Asvat has taught university for twelve years; he was interested in the educational system and practices in Taiwan. During his visit, he was accompanied by the secretary of the Bureau of Information Ching-yi Tsai, who graduated from the Spanish Department and, thus, arranged his visit to Tamkang. Accompanied by the Chair of the Spanish Department, Hsiu-chi Wang, he visited classes of the Graduate Institute of Latin Studies and a freshmen Spanish grammar class. He chatted with students in Spanish and English about international affairs and Panama’s current situation, and encouraged them to work hard on foreign languages. Students felt his friendliness. Later, he was invited to lunch by President Chang.
