On October 7 officials from the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Environmental Protection Agency, Ckiaosi and the Ilan County Government will inspect the ground, Lot 280-5, which has been planned for Tamkang's Lanyang Campus. TKU President Chang Horng-Jinh will personally lead the inspection. A purchase contract of the lot is to be signed at the end of the inspection.
The university has decided to acquire Lot 280-5, which covers 2.4364 acres of land to be the university entrance. TKU has also started the design of the entrance and the road leading to it. Both projects are under preparation and hope to complete the weeding process of the ground by October 7 for the inspection.
The ground preparation work has been in operation continuously, and it will shift into a 24-hour non-stop operation from October 20 onward to meet certain deadlines. For example, the university wishes to pass the inspection of water and soil preservation before this year's anniversary on November 8, and complete all miscellaneous work on the ground before the end of the year. The latter operation is nearly 80% complete, so the shape of the campus is already fairly visible. The slopes of newly prepared ground are under cultivation of various plants and flowers. The university coordinator of Lanyang campus, Dr. Tseng Chen-yuan hopes to finish 60% of the cultivation by the end of the year, and the foundation of all roads on the campus is also expected to complete by then. He intends to obtain the certification of water and soil preservation in November and the license for Miscellaneous Construction approved by the Ilan County Government at the end of the year. The construction of buildings should be able to start by March of 2004 as planned
