The Agency of Small and Medium Business Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) dispatched a committee to visit Tamkang's Champion Incubator Center, which is dedicated to the management and establishment of mid- to small-sized enterprises last Monday, September 29. One committee member Fang Wen-chang expresses the committee's approval of TKU's support to the Center. He remarks that it is particularly encouraging to realize that the Center has demonstrated a deep understanding of their clients by their ability to provide tailor-made problem solving and trouble-shooting to them in various business circumstances. However, he hopes that the enterprises the Center has assisted will provide some monetary rewards to the teaching staff at the Center as a gesture of incentive for further research.
The committee that came to visit the Center consists of 7 members: Professor Fang Wen-chang from Taipei University, Huang Chien-hwa from Base Incubator Center, Hsu Ching-chou from the Ministry of Finance. There were also the section chief, Sue Wen-lin from the Agency of Small and Medium Business Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, accompanied by Supervisor Yeh Hsiu-jian as well as coordinators Wu Yeong-fang and Liu Shu-lin from the same agency. In the opening briefing addressed to them, the Vice President for Administrative Affairs of TKU, Dr. Flora C. I. Chang stated: “The purpose of the Center is first and foremost to assist fledging corporations in Taiwan; at the same time, it also provides wonderful research opportunities to teachers working at the Center. It is run by the university without profit, therefore the establishment of its business practices does not take cost into serious account. Such practices have enabled us to assist successfully several new enterprises.” One of the success stories the Center has helped to create is that of the Yun-Shan Technology Enterprises, which is developing a bullet proof and impenetrable fabric. Its application to research grant from National Science Council has been approved, earning NT$3,840,000 for their budget.
The Center also deploys innovative ways of resolving issues for their clients. For example, the founder of Chong-yu Technology Corporation, a lodging company of the Center, Chiu Wei-jr, who is an alumnus of TKU's Business Administration Department, utilizes the availability of the graduate students working at the Center to resolve the shortage of manpower in his company. Jia-Da Biochemical Corporation is another case. They possess more than one billion NT dollars capital, but were unable to resolve the manpower shortage as their production and research facilities are located in Southern Taiwan where it is difficult to recruit skilled workers. Consequently, they turned to the Center for advice and with the assistance of Professor Wang Bo-chang and the cooperation of the Center by supplying skilled manpower, the company is able to conduct research projects such as developing fire-proof apparel and precision technologies such as “key hole” molding techniques.
