ALUMNI WHO GRADUATED 50 YEARS AGO TO BE THE VIPs AT THE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

The Office of Alumni Services and Resource Development (OASRD) is planning to invite those alumni who graduated 50 years ago when TKU was Tamkang Junior College of English College. The office also encourages any other departments whose years of history end in “5” or “0” to hold special celebrations. The Department of Chemistry, Department of Accounting and Department of Statistics have already begun making special arrangements.

Director of the office, Chen Ming-nan stated that they will invite the alumni of Class ’53, Class ’54 and the Spring Class of both years to join this year’s anniversary celebrations. More than10 alumni among those the office has contacted, who are all in their 70’s, have already shown a keen interest to participate in this event. They include Luan Da-yuan, Chuo Hwa-jin, Fang Neng-hsun, Shou Ping-jin, Tyan-Si, Yo Hsiang-yuan, and Chang Yang-sheng. Director Chen hopes that this year’s celebrations will serve as a model for each department to celebrate its anniversary every five years. This shall be a fine tradition, he believes.

The 45 years old Department of Chemistry was the first to react to such an idea. It will hold its own departmental celebration at 10 a.m. on TKU’s 53rd anniversary at Chung-cheng Lecture Hall in the Chung-ling Chemistry Building. It is expected that there will be hundreds of alumni returning ‘home’. Their families are also cordially welcome. Apart from the celebration, they will attend a one-hour session to exchange news and views. The secretary in chief of the departmental office of alumni affairs, Tseng Zong-hwa, hopes that through these activities he can not only update his data on the alumni, but also raise the issue of a funding shortage his office is facing this year.

Besides the Department of Chemistry, according to OASRD statistics, the following departments are also eligible for celebration this year, which include the Department of Mathematics, Department of Physics, Department of International Trade, Department of French, Department of German, Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Graduate Institute of Japanese Studies, Department of Mass Communication, Graduate Institute of Chinese Studies, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Russian, Department of Industrial Economics, Department of Information and Communication, Department of History, Ph.D. Program of Department of Banking and Finance and Department of Management Sciences and Decision Making.
