President Dr. Chang Horng-jinh was invited to attend the 2003 President Forum of Southeast Asian Universities on Oct. 18 and 19, during which he presented a thesis on “Global Changes in Higher Education”. He took the opportunity to exchange views and signed a memorandum with other universities of this region. Such exchanges should facilitate a future bilateral credit system, which in turn, should strengthen the ties among universities and the quality of higher education in Southeast Asia.
The Forum was organized by National Cheng Kung University on behalf of the Ministry of Education and the venue was at Howard International House in Taipei. Apart from the 150 presidents from various universities and institutes in Taiwan, 60 university presidents from Southeast Asian were also invited. The latter came from countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.
During the Forum, a Higher Education Exhibition of Southeast Asia was organized. 27 universities from Taiwan, including TKU participated in the Exhibition. TKU’s stand was led by the Office of Academic Affairs and Office of International Exchange and International Education, which showed a briefing on Tamkang and distributed posters as well as related materials. These promotional tools are meant to raise Tamkang’s international profile and as references for foreign students should they consider studying at Tamkang.
