The director of the Office of Physical Education, Wang Yi-hsiang welcomes all faculty, staff and students to demonstrate their sportsmanship by being there cheering for all the teams.

Various field events, such as the finals of women’s long jump and men’s high jump, will kick off the event in the morning, followed by the finals of women’s shot putt. In the afternoon, there are men’s final in long jump and shot put as well as women’s finals in high jump.

However, the most highly anticipated event is the team relays which begins at 3:30 with women competing in 2,000m whereas men in 4,000m.

Among the individuals who participate in the meet, there are two particular athletes to look out for. One is Kang Shun-ching of the Electrical Engineering Department who took the Gold medal in both men’s high jump and long jump last year is returning to retain his titles. The other is Liu Nan-sun of the Information Management Department, who broke the TKU record in men’s 100m last time; he is ready to test his limit once again.

In addition to these track and field events, there are finals of volleyball and basketball scheduled for noon on separate courts. The last two teams in each sport emerging on October 31 after some grueling matches in the semi-finals are ready for the testosterone-charged championship today. This year the four teams in men’s group in contention of the crown in basketball were all new teams—Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (DCSIE) and the Department of Mathematics won the first place and second place, so are to meet again today, while the Department of Statistics and Department of Business Administration (DBA) won the third and fourth place. In women’s basketball, the Department of Accounting and Department of International Trade (DIT) won the first and second place, whereby earned them the possibility today to win the championship. The DCSIE and the Department of Insurance got the third and fourth place.

In men’s volleyball, the Department of Mathematics (DM) and the Department of Physics (DP) meet in front the net today. Last year’s champion, the DCSIE only won the third place in the semifinals. The Department of Banking and Finance (DBF), who was last year’s champion in women’s volley is as hot as ever and is expected to win this year, too.

These teams had to ‘claw’ their way through at the semifinals to get to the finals today. In the game between DM and DBA was a jigsaw match until the moment, the No. 31 of DM got a rebound and scored a 2 points to reverse the whole team’s fortune until the very end securing their place at the finals. Lai Jun-how, the No. 31, put down the great team’s work and jubilant fans as success factors. His words were echoed by Yu shen-xiu of the DIT at their semifinal against the DCSIE. Her team had a very comfortable lead over their opponent at the first half, but had to work much harder to retain that edge in the second half. Nonetheless, with an unbreakable team work and supportive fans, they won by 2 points when the bell rang.
