JAPANESE ARCHITECT BRINGS NEW IDEAS TO TKU

A renowned Japanese architect, Prof. Mokoto Sei Watanabe, arrived last Tuesday for a week's intensive seminar on "Induction Design" for the second year students of TKU Graduate Institute of Architecture. So far, the students have been working non-stop ever since his arrival, and they feel extremely challenged, as Prof. Watanabe is highly unpredictable in what and how he teaches. He also does not allow students too much down time since he often expects an assignment to be completed overnight. In other words, all students have been doing one assignment per day up 'til now! To meet deadlines, they have to put in an average of 7 to 8 extra hours to complete homework. Furthermore, he is always tight-lipped about the tasks he is about to give, so there is absolutely no way for any student to prepare anything in advance.

Despite his tough schedule and unpredictability, students respect him tremendously and feel honored to have him as a teacher due to his brilliant technical skills and innovative style of teaching. He not only brought with him his own software, Web Frame program, for them to be familiar with, but also facilitates their creativity. As a result, students feel challenged and excited and never miss his classes.

He has been to Tamkang a few times. Last time when he was here in March, he worked with students' own works, and during this present seminar, he concentrates on digital design.
