TKU KENDO TEAM HAD A GREAT SUCCESS AT FU JEN CUP KENDO CONTEST

The kendo team of TKU joined the 13th Fu Jen Cup Kendo Contest on May 9th and returned in triumph. In the point-scoring contest, TKU kendo team won the champion of male group and the second prize of female group. In addition, in the pass-getting contest, TKU won third place in both male and female group.

“Our captain felt very happy! He held the cup tightly in his arms, even not allowing anyone to touch it! He was just too excited!” said by the vice-captain of TKU kendo team Chi Kuan-liang (Junior, Dept. of Public Administration). Chi could not help laughing when he described the scene that the captain Chang Cheng-yi (Junior, Dept. of Computer Science and Information Engineering) was awarded the champion cup. In the point-scoring contest, victor must win two games among three. And the rule of pass-getting contest was that each team sent a person to battle. The winner can stay at the field, waiting another challenger. The team that changed five players first would lose the game.

In the final game of point-scoring contest, TKU kendo team competed with Chung Hua University. Captain Chang Cheng-yi was the most important player of the team. He took a good use of the gap between the contact with and separation from his opponent, giving his contender an instant attack while he had a sudden trance. Chang defeated many players and contributed a lot for winning the champion.

In the afternoon, TKU confronted with Chung Hua University again. With the champion prize they got in the morning, the players of TKU now had tremendous confidence, but they underestimated the enemy. This time Chung Hua team took the initiative. They sent a crackerjack first who defeated four players of TKU. It seemed that TKU kendo team would lose the game in the moment. Fortunately, Captain Chang, who beat down five opponents successively, turned the defeat into victory. As for the female group, the pass-getting contest proceeded quite smoothly. Chang Hsiu-ling (Senior, Dept. of German) defeated the contestants of Cheng Kung University and Fu Jen University. However, they only got the second prize because they were overthrown by Chengchi University at the semi-final.

The top male players of TKU kendo team included Chang Cheng-yi (Junior, Dept. of Computer Science and Information Engineering), Su Po-ying and Chi Kuan-liang (Junior, Dept. of Public Administration), Su Ming-hung and Wen Shih-hsien (Senior, Dept. of Physics), and many of them launched the attack and hit the opponent instantly, defeating their foes in a minute. As for the female players, there were four belonging to main force, including Huang Ya-ru and Chang Hsiu-ling (Senior, Dept. of German), Hou Yu-chuan (Senior, Dept. of Statistics), and Xiao Yi-tien (Sophomore, Dept. of Accounting). All of them had great performance at the contest, bringing their skills into full play. Chi Kuan-liang said that every member of TKU kendo team had resolution. They knew that the contest was for the whole team rather than for individuals, so even they could not beat down the opponent, they would still hold on firmly until the last minute.
