The “E-pen” invented by TKU and made in Taiwan, has captured the heart of the American public. Dr. Kao Po-yuan, Vice President for Administrative Affairs, has led Chang Ben-hang, Director of Calligraphy Laboratory, Kuo Chin-hwa, Director of Distance Education Development Section, and Cheng Shia, Director of Huang-hsiang E-pen Company to America. They reached a consensus on cooperation with New York Institute of Technology (NYiT). In the future, “E-pen” will be incorporated into the simultaneous on-line teaching system of NYiT and get into the formal educational system of America.

“Originally we went to America for investigating its Chinese market. We never thought that we could gain a surprising result,” said Dr. Kao happily. With “E-pen” a computer system can display the penmanship of both soft and hard pen calligraphy. Moreover, the space of the file is very small so that it can be replayed repeatedly. Furthermore, it can not only be applied to simultaneous on-line teaching system, but also be compatible with software programs such as Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Word, video e-mail. Hence, it becomes an aid for making on-line materials. “E-pen” is highly appreciated by New York Institute of Technology since it has a lot of advantages and can be used in the teaching of many subjects like mathematics, science, and history. Now we are in the process of discussing cooperation details with that institute.

In addition, the National Council of Association of Chinese Language Schools will also adopt the “E-pen” to distance education to cultivate Chinese language teachers. One of TKU sister university, California State University, Long Beach, expresses their interest to collaborate with us as well. Therefore, school authority will propose a project to Ministry of Education concerning academic cooperation with foreign universities in the aspect of Chinese language.
