PROGRAM OF FUTURES STUDIES TO ENROLL STUDENTS

The program of futures studies will begin the fourth enrollment of students. Those academic results in freshmen and sophomore year must be over 70 points or academic result of futurology in core curriculums is over 80 points are qualified for application. The total number of enrollment will be set at 30.

The program has been offering 18 months ago. A certificate will be conferred to the first graduates of the program at the end of this semester. Courses on the 18-credit program included the Introduction of Futurology, the Basic Theory, the tendency studies and leadership. The courses offered will be aimed at cultivating students with a far-sighted thought and macro vision and the capacity of analyzing the future tendency so as to develop the capacity of integration of special quality of a future leader.

Chang Tai-lung, senior of Department of English who has completed 18-credit program of futures studies, said: “I don’t care what advantages the certificate can bring me in the future. I have learned much of knowledge from this program. By discussing the problem with different departmental students at the class has broadened my visional range”. Speaking about the suggestion might be made for their younger classmates, Yang Tung-yuan, senior of Department of Educational Technology, said: “The program of futures studies will give you many opportunities to stimulate your thoughts of mind and is a good trial”.

Those interested should send a filled enrollment sheet attached with sheet of academic result, and course selective table for this semester to Center for Futures Studies by April 30 at Room Q207. At the same time, Center for Futures Studies will select two students to take part in the international conference of futures studies scheduled to be held in Croatia on Aug. 26-30, 2003. Those interested can reach at Room Q207 to fill in the application form attached with the academic result of futures studies over 80 points and a report of futurology.

In order to match with the objective of globalization and future-oriented education of TKU, two students are selected to take part in the international conference of futures studies in the hope that students will learn futures studies from experts and scholars around the world, on the other hand will demonstrate the efforts and achievement of futures studies education being promoted in TKU.

The registration will begin from 9:00 am of April 28 to 12:00 noontime of May 16. Those who pass the primary approval of Center for Futures Studies (CFS) should take part in the specialty examination and an English interview. The CFS will recommend them to school authorities in accordance with their exam result for selecting two students to participate in the international conference of futurology. School authorities will subsidize a round-trip air ticket, registering charges, boarding charges during the meeting for the two who are selected.

After returning from the meeting, they should give a briefing on the meeting and submit a report of what they have learned from the meeting to teachers of CFS and brief their meeting report to students who will be participating in the core course of futures studies.
