Department of Mass Communication (DMC) will celebrate its 20th founding anniversary with a gala party and an exhibition of academic achievement made by would-be graduates of the 2003 class to be held at the Celebration Hall of Taipei City Government on May 3, 2003.
Tamkang University (TKU) Founder Dr. Clement C. P. Chang, TKU President Dr. Chang Horng-jinh, Dr. Flora C.I. Chang, Vice President for Administrative Affairs; Dr. Feng Chao-kang, Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Kao Po-yuan, Dean of College of Liberal Arts; will make speech at the party. A score of mass media leaders, including Wang Ling-lin, Chairperson of Tungshen Television Group; Chiu Fu-sheng, Chairperson of TVBS; Jim Lai, Chairperson of Next Magazine; and Wang Wen-san, will be invited to the party.
The gala celebration party will be jointly presided over by Alumni Lin Chung-yi and Lin Tsao-chun. A series of colorful programs, including drama, dancing and musical drama played by the departmental students from freshmen to senior, will perform at the gathering. A CD on “Double Tenth Mass Communication” will be shown at the party. A review of photos and films in the past 20 years will also be displayed at the site of the gathering.
During the party, Lee Mei-hua, Chair of Department of Mass Communication, will confer the “Departmental Elite Alumnus Award” on Yang Hua, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of TVBS, for his contribution to promoting the mass communication and the chairperson of DMC Alumni Association
The celebration party will also be climaxed by attending chairs of all previous, including Chen Shih-ming, founder of the department, Lin Tung-tai, and others, and a score of outstanding alumni now serving in mass media.
In conjunction with the 20th departmental founding anniversary, an exhibition of the academic achievements made by the 17th graduates will also be held at Taipei City Government on May 3-4. Hsu Chia-chen, chairperson of organizing committee, said that the exhibition will be called “Playing Mass Media Doctrine”, which will hint that the current mass media is controlled by business and the mass media circle is filled with great confusion. Work will be displayed at the exhibition including films and sounding products, advertising and public relations products and multimedia products.
In addition, a symposium on “Dialogue of Communication Theories and Practice” will be held on Tamsui Campus on May 1. A number of outstanding alumni will be also invited to take part in the symposium.
