Students of Department of History will serve as guards to protect a bronze sword for the whole night. The sword is such a treasure that the National Palace Museum has collected only one. Two such kind of swords will be exhibited at the Literature Week sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts held at the exhibition hall of the Business Management Building. Visitors are welcome to pay a visit to the priceless sword of the Warring Era from tomorrow.
Literature Week co-sponsored by Department of History will set its theme on “History, Technology and Humanity”. Prof. Huang Jiann-chen of Department of History offered his personal collection, eight pieces of bronze work, including two double-edged swords used by the King of Yeh in the earlier Warring Era for display.
According to a historic record, the sword was made 2,400 years ago and only 14 swords now existing in the world. The sword possessed by Prof. Huang was a collection similar to that of Beijing Palace Museum, Paris Museum, and National Palace Museum in Taipei. Nevertheless, the real sword used by the King of Yeh, Chou-chu will be exhibited only one day on March 18. The remaining days will exhibit only its photo picture. Therefore, those who are interested in should come on the exact 18th. Other works on display include a cloud line pod, a cloud line sword of the Warring Era and a fiery cage of Han Dynasty.
Associate Prof. Ho Young-cheng, Department of History, has also planned a “Chinese Wine Cultural Utensil Modeling Exhibition”. In addition to offering various styles of wine containers, wine utensils, some are the only available in the display. Prof. Ho said, “ It is worth to mention that various models of wine utensils with their exclusive characteristics have demonstrated the profundity of wine culture, which has closely attached to the history, technology and humanity”.
Besides the bronze and wine utensils, Prof. Yeh Hung-sa of Department of History had her students designed an exhibit on Chinese medicine, agriculture and astronomy. A book exhibition will also be held where books are available with reasonable prices. The Department of History will also offer a collection of rare books for students to read. Films related to the Forbidden City (Tz Chin Chen), Five Tyrants in Spring and Autumn Warring Era and Ma Wang-due of Han Dynasty will be shown at the exhibition hall. Lung Tsun-ni, former Director of Taiwan Research Institute, will deliver a keynote speech on Thursday.
A colorful folk clothes show will be held following the opening ceremony at 9:30 AM of March 18.
