College of Education Will Hold an International Conference to

An international conference on renovation of the educational/teaching program in high and primary schools will be held at the International Conference Room, Chueh Sheng Memorial Building between November l and 2.

College of Education will play host to this conference.

Given the urgency of the recently promulgated 9-year primary education program, Prof. Huang Ping-huang, Dean, College of Education, has planned this conference. Specialists from Australia, Japan, Hong kong and Taiwan are expected to participate in this international symposium.

In past years, the curriculum planning in high and primary schools has been geared at grouping it into l0 categories such as English, Chinese, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Ethics, Physical Education, etc.

Now, the new program under study intends to simplify it into 7 categories.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held at 9 A.M. It will be jointly presided over by Dr. Wu Tieh-hsiung, Deputy Minister, M.O.E., and Pres. Chang Horng-jinh of T.K.U., and the closing ceremony will be presided over by Dr. Flora C.I. Chang, V.P. for Administrative Affairs.

The 2-day agenda will include 4 keynote speeches. Tamkang e-Times learned, so far, that Prof. Shan Wen-ching, National Taiwan Normal University, will be the first to talk; his topic: “Curriculum Revolution: An

Analysis of Dr. Beane’s Theory and Practice”. Second on the agenda will be Prof. Huang Hsian-hua, from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, whose topic will be: “A Comparative Study of the Curriculum Change in Hong Kong and Taiwan”.

On the other hand, 6 panels will be presented within two days, during which many papers will be read. The panels are scheduled in the following order: 1) “Curriculum Coordination/Integration and Innovation”, to be presided over by Prof. Huang Ping-huang; 2) “Experience Sharing: a discussion on the reading experience shared by both parents and children, to help them increase their comprehension of languages and sciences, etc.”, to be presided over by Prof. Chang Yu-cheng, President, National Taipei Teachers’ College; 3) “Education Renovation and Teachers’ Training Program”, to be overseen by Prof. Huang Kun-ching, National Chiao Tung University; 4) “Experience Sharing”, to be presided over by Prof. Kao Hsin-chien, Taipei Municipal Teachers College; 5) “The Autonomy and Development of a Teacher’s Professional Specialty”, to be presided over by Prof. Shan Wen-ching, National Taiwan Normal University and 6) “The Perspectives and Challenges in the Future: A Preliminary Survey of Networks Pedagogical Environment”, to be presided over by Prof. Huang Cheng-jieh, National Taiwan Normal University.
