The Department of Chemistry hosted a master lecture, inviting Prof. Martin Kotora from TKU's sister school, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, as the keynote speaker.

The Department of Chemistry held a master lecture on September 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center, inviting Prof. Martin Kotora from our sister school Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, to present a talk titled: "Catalytic Activation of Small Molecules Towards Aromatic and Heteroaromatic Compounds." The lecture explored the impact of organic light-emitting materials on drug synthesis.

The Department of History, in collaboration with the Taiwan Association of Southeast Asian Studies, held the book launch for The Diverse Expressions of Hakka Identity in Southeast Asia (「東南亞客家族群性的多樣展現」) on September 20 at 4:00 p.m. in the Hsu Shou Chlien International Conference Center. The book was co-authored by Dr. Shu-Ming Chang, an alumnus of the Department of History and Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Hakka Language and Social Sciences at National Central University, and scholars such as Assistant Professor Tsung-Yuan Chen from the Department of History at Tamkang University. The event featured keynote speakers, including the book’s 2 chief editors, Senior Advisor to the President and Chair Professor at the College of Hakka Studies of National Central University, Professor Michael Hsin-Huang Hsiao, and Distinguished Professor Han-Pi Chang from National Central University, and other authors. Other guests, including Con-Ziin Yiong, former Chairman of the Hakka Affairs Council, and young Hakka scholars, also participated in the event.

Visiting students enthusiastically experienced the process of producing a television program at the Department of Mass Communication’s Tamkang TV station.

On the afternoon of September 19 at 2 p.m., Vice Principal Tan Teck Sen and Director Phang Zi Huey from Foon Yew High School in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, along with Vice Principal Gan Chuang Chee and Director Leong Pey Miin from Foon Yew High School’s Kulai branch, led a group of 24 teachers and students on a visit to Tamkang University. The delegation was received by the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs, which arranged a campus tour, academic program experiences, and a discussion session to help the visitors better understand the university and consider the possibility of studying here.

The event was hosted by the Vice President for International Affairs, Professor. Hsiao-Chuan Chen, with the Dean of International Affairs, Professor. Chien-Mu Yeh, Secretary of the office and Chief of the International and Cross-Strait Exchange Section, Ms. Hsinying Acid Chu, and Chief of the International and Mainland Students Guidance Section and the International Foundation Program, Ms. Nastia Lin, leading their teams to welcome 35 new students from Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, and other countries into the Tamkang University family.

The "High Table Dinner" organized by the Center for Holistic Education for its new members, including first-year students from the all-English classes in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, the Department of English, the Department of International Tourism Management, and the Department of Global Politics and Economics, was grandly held on October 1 at 5:45 p.m. in the Student Activity Center. Vice President for Academic Affairs and Director of the Holistic Education Center, Professor Hui-Huang Hsu, dined with the attending faculty and first-year students, with over 260 participants joining the event.

The Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section held the "Summer Service Team Sharing Session: Experience Joy and Share Love" on September 26 at 6:30 p.m. in classoom B713. 6 service teams happily presented the results of their efforts, with nearly 70 participants attending the event. Section Chief Te-Cheng Cheng presented service certificates, expressing that the experiences the teams went through, from preparation to the completion of their missions, were unforgettable. He thanked everyone for maintaining their enthusiasm throughout the process.

Merck Taiwan x Chemistry On the Go: 10-Year Partnership Advancing Science Education – ESG Foresight and Collaborative Circle Interview

The Center for Science Education under the College of Science has received long-term sponsorship from Merck Taiwan to execute the "Chemistry On the Go" program. This initiative brings chemistry experiments to schools across Taiwan, particularly small schools with limited teaching staff, and teaches chemistry to elementary and high school students. Merck’s global SPARK program has donated over NT$17 million over the past ten years. This achievement attracted the attention of Global Views Monthly Magazine (GVM), which, on September 22, featured an interview on the "ESG GVM Collaborative Circle" podcast, discussing how both parties have collaborated to consistently provide high-quality science education to primary and secondary schools.

Tamkang University's medium- and long-term goals for sustainable development guided by AI+SDGs=∞and ESG+AI=∞, aim to become a glocalized, cloud-smart, and sustainable future resilient university city. On the afternoon of September 25, the Center for Sustainable Development and Social Innovation (SDSI) hosted the "2024 Tamkang University Sustainability Reporting and Value Communication Conference" at the Hsu Shou Chlien International Conference Center. The event was presided over by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Center Director, Professor Hui-Huang Hsu, and attended by the Vice President for International Affairs, Professor Hsiao-Chuan Chen, as well as first-level supervisors. The conference featured the release of the Sustainability Report, the Social Responsibility Annual Report, and the Carbon Inventory Report, showcasing Tamkang University's achievements in promoting sustainable development in 2023.

On September 16, 2024, Stanford University released the latest "World's Top 2% Scientists 2024" list, which includes 24 scholars from Tamkang University in the "Lifetime Scientific Impact Rankings (1960-2023)" (see Table 1) and 13 scholars in the "2024 Scientific Impact Rankings" (see Table 2), with a total of 37 entries. Since 8 scholars were listed in both rankings, the total number of individual scholars from our university is 29, the same as last year, leading among non-medical private universities.

Congratulations! Tamkang University won the “2024 School Sports Torch Award from the Sports Administration (SA), Ministry of Education (MOE). Together with the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and the National Taiwan University of Physical Education and Sports, Tamkang University was awarded the Excellence in College Sports Award. This marks the 5th time our university has received this honor, following wins in 2009, 2013, 2016, and 2020, tying with the National Taiwan University for the most wins nationwide. For 3 times, the two universities were selected simultaneously. On the afternoon of September 24 at 1:30 p.m., President Huan-Chao Keh, along with Vice President for Academic Affairs Hui-Huang Hsu, Vice President for International Affairs Hsiao-Chuan Chen, Dean of Physical Education I-Cheng Chen, Dean of Student Affairs Shih-Jung Wu, and several faculty members from the Office of Physical Education, attended the award ceremony held at the 11th floor of the Chang Yung-Fa Foundation International Conference Hall to accept the award.
