National High School Creative Chemistry Competition: Challenges, Experiments, and Tours - Yanping High School Secures Double Gold
The National Chung-Ling Chemistry Innovation Contest awarded 2 Gold Medals for Practical Projects, both claimed by Yanping High School. The winners were Chien-Hsun Wang, Tzu-Chun Hsu, and Hao-Chun Liao, as well as You-Chen Li, Hsuan-Ju Wang, and Chie-Lin Kuo. To spark interest in chemistry among high school students, deepen their understanding of chemistry's impact on human life, and enhance their basic knowledge and experimental skills, the Department of Chemistry at Tamkang University held the 19th National Chung-Ling Chemistry Innovation Contest on December 7, with events running all day at the Chung-Ling Chemistry Hall. 22 gold medals for the group practical competition were awarded, both won by teams from Yanping High School. The winning teams included members Chien-Hsun Wang, Tzu-Chun Hsu, and Hao-Chun Liao, as well as You-Chen Li, Hsuan-Ju Wang, and Chie-Lin Kuo. Each team received a cash prize of NT$4,500 and a certificate. Additionally, 4 silver medals and 6 bronze medals were awarded.

The 2024 Academic Year Kendo Championship for Colleges and Universities was held last November 23-24 at Dayeh University, where the Kendo Club demonstrated impressive skills, earning 3 golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze.

Architecture Department Celebrates 60th Anniversary: Over 100 Alumni Return to Donate for Department Renovation
The 60th Anniversary Celebration of the Architecture Department attracted over 100 alumni, many accompanied by their families, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.

The Department of Architecture held its 60th-anniversary celebration on November 30, 2024, hosting a warm "Homecoming" gathering for alumni from 10 AM to 4 PM. The event attracted over a hundred alumni, including renowned architects Jou-Min Lin and Chia-Ju Lin, Taiwan Design Research Institute President Chi-Yi Chang, and Architecture Department Alumni Association President Chiu-Li Kuo, among other prominent figures. On the day of the event, alumni enthusiastically donated over NT$4 million to support the department’s development, covering scholarships, construction contributions, and more. Department Chair Chun-Jung Ko stated that the funds would be used for projects such as the façade and entrance space of the department building, with renovations expected to be completed by April next year.

The College of Business and Management held the Wu-Tung Chen Scholarship Award Ceremony for this semester at noon on December 3, 2024, in B302E. Wu-Tung Chen, an alumnus of the Department of International Trade (now the Department of International Business) and a recent recipient of the Golden Eagle Award, traveled from Kaohsiung to personally present the scholarships. He greeted each awardee with a handshake, expressing his congratulations. This semester’s recipients were Jing-Yuan Peng (4th-year Business Administration), Yu-Jun Yao (3rd-year Information Management), Yin-Xuan Ding (2nd-year Public Administration), Ting-Yi Wu (1st-year Information Management), and Kuan-Hsuan Lin (1st-year Accounting). Each student received a scholarship of NT$10,000.

6 Doctoral Freshmen, Including Kun-Duo Weng, Awarded NSTC Research Scholarships

6 new doctoral students admitted to Tamkang University in the 2024 academic year, including Kun-Duo Weng from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, have been awarded the "National Science and Technology Council Doctoral Research Scholarship." Each recipient will receive a monthly stipend of NT$40,000 for 3 consecutive years, along with the honorary title of NSTC Graduate Research Fellowship.

Taipei City Alumni Association Awards NT$2.1 Million in Scholarships to 160 Recipients

The Taipei City Tamkang University Alumni Association raised scholarships and hosted the 2024 Academic Year Public Welfare Platform Award Ceremony on the morning of December 8, 2024, at the Sing Liang Dian Garden Banquet. Scholarships in 4 categories - “Unity,” “Outstanding Academic Performance,” “Self-Reliance,” and “Enthusiastic Service” - were awarded. A total of 64 sponsors from 11 alumni and societal groups contributed, benefiting 160 students with scholarships totaling approximately NT$2.1 million. The ceremony was attended by nearly 238 participants, including faculty, students, alumni, parents, sponsors, and volunteers, celebrating a moment filled with joy and honor.

Dr. Yu Shyr Awarded Honorary Director of Taiwan Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking

Dr. Yu Shyr, a Golden Eagle alumnus from the Department of Statistics, has been honored with the title of "Honorary Director" by the Taiwan Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking for his academic achievements in biostatistics and the application of big data in the biomedical field. The certificate was personally presented by former Vice President Chien-Jen Chen during the society's recent annual meeting. The society aims to leverage Shyr's extensive experience in advancing related academic efforts in the United States to establish Taiwan's human biobank. Shyr also shared insights into the latest developments in medical big data in the U.S.

The Department of Aerospace Engineering has recently been actively involved in various international exchange activities, showcasing its professional influence and global connections in the aerospace field. Following Department Chair Fu-Yuen Hsiao's visit to Poland in early November 2024, 2 Polish experts visited the department on November 27 and 28. Additionally, the department hosted the "Taiwan International Mission Idea Contest on CubeSat" on December 2 at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, with Assistant Professor Hongru Chen from Kyushu University's Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics serving as a judge. Prof. Hsiao emphasized the department's commitment to global engagement through a series of international exchange activities, which not only strengthen collaborations with scholars worldwide but also provide valuable international perspectives and academic exchange opportunities for faculty and students.

4 sophomore students from the Department of International Tourism Management at Tamkang University participated in the 2024 12th National Daguan Cup Tourism Design Competition national finals, co-organized by Taipei City University of Science and Technology and the High Quality of Travel Association. Their guided tour video, “Northern Views of Prosperity” (「北觀富貴漫遊金山」), won the Special Gold Medal in the University Foreign Language Category and the Grand Jury Prize, earning a total prize of NT$8,000. Unlocking Quantum Materials: Prof. Hung-Chung Hsueh Collaborates with Taiwanese Team to Publish in International Journal
The latest academic research findings from Prof. Hung-Chung Hsueh's research team are presented.

Professor Hung-Chung Hsueh, who also serves as the Dean of Research and Development, led a cross-university research team, including third-year doctoral student Chih-En Hsu from our university, to achieve another milestone in the field of quantum materials science. Their latest research paper, "The growing charge-density-wave order in CuTe lightens and speeds up electrons," was published in the prestigious international journal, Nature Communications. Hsueh is the sole corresponding author for the theoretical component. According to the latest data released by Clarivate, the journal has a five-year impact factor of 16.1, highlighting its significant influence on the academic community.

On December 11, 2024, at 1:00 PM, the Guidance Section under the Office of Student Affairs held the "2024 Academic Year Chang Yeo Lan Scholarship Award Ceremony" in the Yeo-Lan Hall of the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center. With the theme "Tamkang Sustainability Together with Chang Yeo Lan," the ceremony was hosted by President Huan-Chao Keh. In recent years, Tamkang University has excelled in teaching practice research projects, achieving the highest number of approved projects among comprehensive universities nationwide for 2 consecutive years.

The 2023 Teaching Practice Research Excellence Projects were announced on December 12, 2024. 5 projects from Tamkang University were recognized for their outstanding performance, securing third place among universities and colleges nationwide and ranking first among private universities. The honored faculty members include Associate Professor Ying-Chang Yu from the Department of Architecture, Assistant Professor Ming-Hsiu Tsai from the Department of Civil Engineering, Professor Mei-Ling Wang from the Department of Business Administration, Associate Professor Kuei-Chieh Chang from the Graduate Institute of Educational Psychology and Counseling, and Assistant Professor Fu-Tzu Kuo from the Office of Physical Education.
